Does any one know of a way to use my original 53 hub caps on a modern steel wheel. I have one stock rim left and would like to convert to a stock looking wheel set up with wide rears and narrow front steel wheels. Not original but kind of "old school" I guess.
Yes you can use newer Kelsy rims that have the centers welded and have the safety lip on the rim too. Look at the wreckers for 70-80's GM Full size or wagon that has the right 4 3/4 on five bolt patern and with the tabs to fit the 53/54 Canadian hub poverty caps. This is what I have done. Looks so real close to original that most will never know. And another thing is these rims are a wider width than the stock 53/54s so a wider tire can be fitted. If this is not the way you want to go and want nice new rims to spec and fitting your caps give these guys a call. They aare local for me, but you might want to find someone who does this closer to you. http://www.winnipegwheelworks.com/ Rod

the 54 and the 53 wheel are not the same, on a 53 one there is no "bump" on the center to hold the cap, it's metal "tab" hold by rivet. The 53 and the 54 dog dish cap are not the same too.
I'm maybe wrong, correct me if I am.

Yes you may be right. That would make it alot harder to find older Humm (70's 80's) Kelsy's to work with. There might be some GM ones that use the tabs no? For me I noticed "bumps" were right on the money for my stock cap. But don't you have just the same cap as I do or is yours like the US models? Or just attached differently for some reason? SO many questions sorry!
