RE: What is your "CP Claim To Fame?"

Our family has owned many Pontiacs. '67 Pontiac ambulance, '68 Beaumont Custom 2 door, '72 LeMans with optional GTO front end and numerous Parisiennes. 67BBSD told me about this site and I located my Dad's old 1952 Pontiac coupe because of it. It disappeared in the early 1990's when it was auctioned off at one of the old RM Auctions in Toronto. As it turns out, it was sold to a man in New Jersey who just happened to find this site and post some pic's of it. I've been in contact with him on many occasions about the car. I've said it before and I'll say it again. If Todd had not started this site, it would still be a mystery to my family where this car finally ended up.
Thanks again Todd!!!

And the biggest mistake I ever made was telling people on here that I did that laughing.gif

I guess my claim to fame is having the largest collection of 1955 Canadian Pontiac factory literature. I have probably decoded more 55 and 56 Can Pontiacs than anyone else. I still own a 55 Laurentian 2 door that I have had since graduating high school, an all original 55 Laurentian 2 door that I purchased in Newfoundland and drove home and an extremely rare 55 2 door pathfinder stationwagon that I am slowly building into a street rod.

Last fall my wife and I hosted the first car related barbecue ever held in Timmins as a welcoming event for Giant Tigers annual fall car show. We hosted over 49 cars and well over 70 people in our back yard and shop area. We are doing it again this fall and are hoping for an even larger turnout.

My thanks to Todd for starting this site and getting the opportunity to meet a few other Canadian Pontiac car owners.

Also want to thank my parents and especially my father for the great upbringing and instilling a love and an appreciation of old cars in myself and the rest of our family.

Al

I took my drivers test in 1962 in a 62 Nova Convertible.
In 1963, I helped drive that car from Michigan to the west coast via route 66 and via route 80 on the return trip home.
I worked at the Chevrolet Engine Plant in Flint , Michigan building SBC only from 1965-68.
Most of the above doesn't qualify as CP but rather Chevrolet Motor Division.

Currently own 1963 Acadian Beaumont Sport Deluxe, I think is one of 200-300 depending on who you talk to.
Drove 2500+ miles in 2001 to buy a Canadian built 62 Nova Convertible.  Drove said Nova from BC to Reno for "Hot August Nights" and then home to Michigan, 3000 miles?
I have driven route 66, east to west, 8-10 times in my life.
I have transported close to 500 antique and classic cars for other enthusiast.
Drove 3600 miles round trip to pick up a 62 Nova convertible parts car, Michigan to Montana.
I have shown a car at Autofest, 3 times and received the long distance award once.
I have shown my Acadian in Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Ontario.
1963 Acadian was choosen to participate in the General Motors 100th anniversary, Century Cruise in conjunction with Detroit's Woodward Cruise in 2008.
We drove our 63 Acadian SD over 1700 miles on the Hot Rod Power Tour in 2009.

I suppose a number of people have purchased cars over 2000 miles from home.  How many have packed a small bag, small tool box and drove to that car.  Then after a quick safety check, I put the clothes and tools in the trunk and drove the 49 yr old car to a car show, 4 states away and then home, some 3000 miles.
Many of us have restored an old car but how many have then driven it 1700 miles on the back roads, up and down the hills, through small towns along with 5000 other gearheads over 5 or 6 days.

I don't have a ton of posts and I have only met a handfull of members, face to face.
I have posted when I thought I had something to contribute.
I have supported the site through the purchase of CP shirts and memoriabilia.
I contributed and joined the CPSC of POCI.

Oh, and Fred (68SD), I would have to pick you (for doing the registry) and Todd (for starting this place) as the two with the greatest CP claims to fame.

I totally agree with Carl here. If I had a CP claim to fame it would have to be my only one. I resurrected a rare Beaumont wagon, and beat the heck out of it at the track.

My canadian pontiac addiction began when I first rode in my brother's '64 Parisienne 409 car.

I also owned a '67 Grand Parisienne 396 car.

Maybe not thtat interesting as some of the others here, but this is mine.

My dad's first car was a salmon green and pink 56 four door Laurentian (hence my handle here). It was the car he had when he dated my mother. When he left home to work, my uncles drove it into the ground and was parked in the early 70's? I played in that car when I was small for hours in the mid-seventies, it was the car that probably started the car nut gene for me. Around 1977 my Dad got the car running in the exact same spot where it was parked and the two of us went for a ride about a mile down the road and arrived back with three flat tires. The engine was pulled that day and stuffed into Dad's bush truck, a 61 Apache which was sold a couple of years later. Over the years the car was pulled into the bush and left. Around 1990 I pulled it out and installed a running engine from a 59 chev truck and installed spindles which somewhere along the line were cut off for a trailer. The car has since sat waiting for me to get back to it. I have done a few cars for myself and I will get to this one "someday". Sorry I have not posted pics and a tag for I have not been to the farm for quite awhile now but I will get them the next time I'm at the farm.

My very first car. Purchaced for $400 from my aunt in 77.
Bought new from Leggatt Pontiac on Brant in Burlington in 69. This car towed a large camper on the Cabot trail...and blew the motor. A replacement was installed at a GM dealer in Sidney. Dream of it still. C'mon, silver on black, little rust but it was thought of as being junk then. Go figure?

My project car. Laying in wait. I'd love to get back to it. It would be a awsome car if it ever gets done. I have a ton of stuff for it.

My current Cp. Historic perhaps, but I've got a few plans for it this year.

Do I qualify?

I'm up and down with posting here...but I'm always checking in!

Cheers, Mark

That silver 69 2+2 looked very sharp.
I guess that's my other "claim to fame" - owning a low mileage 427 69 Parisienne.

I was reminded this morning of another CP claim to fame of mine! My nephew sent me some pictures of it.

Long ago, someone told me that there was no way to install a CP big block into a first generation (62-65 Acadian/Nova) unless you cut the inner shock towers and used a modified oil pan to clear the steering.

Don't ever tell a man he CAN'T do something...Here is proof that you shouldn't!

I made my own steering center link to clear the pan and built my own tubular exhaust manifolds to make it all work. Over the years I put about 10,000 miles on it, much of that taking 2 trips to POCI conventions in the upper midwest USA.

Also on that car I designed and built power window regulators so I could have factory appearing power windows in the car. These cars never had that option.

While I don't own a Pontiac, I did stay at a Holiday Inn and saved a bundle on my car insurance by switching to Geico.

Doesn't count?

Hey, I live down the road from Todd!!!!!! How bout that?

my cp hall of fame has nothingto do with me i blame it all on my uncle who was rebuilding dismantling and salvaging old 65,66,impala and pontiacs through my early life he was going to rent out convertable pontiacs for weddings he had four on the go plus 3 hard tops and 3 impala rags plus 3 htops he must of cut up over a hundred and fifty pontiac more doors and hard tops and wrecked converts to get the best parts for his restorations . he fell sick to pnumonia
stopping his restoration projects dead cold five years later the city put pressure on him then i was brought in to help sort out what was to go and what was staying so the sorting of old shifters approx 25 powere window options ,rear end glass took up the next year and a half of my life the seed for old crusty itchy rusty tin was planted . now 6 years later trading swapping selling over 50 vintage vehicles bodies parts accesories and now possesing one of my first largest pontiac and chev buys of six 1939 two door coupes! so i dont know if i qualify as a hall of famer but i got the bug while branded buy an indian head!- josh

A little history...

I think the first car that I can recall being impressed with was an 1968 Impala that my dad bought new for my mom's birthday. White with red interior...pretty. My parents seperated shortly there after. The car was vandalized and ended up in the harbour covered by the tide twice. But that's another story!

My next influence with cars was in my teens. My brother and his pals that hung around the house, had a large variety of cars A VW Bus, Chevy Biscayne, Le Mans... they let me hang around when they were working on them. We would also spent evenings buliding plastic car models. They would reinforce theirs and smash the up derby style...not mine, I keep them safe aww

My hidden desire for cars really started to bloom in my late teens when I met my husband to be and his friends. Wayne had several cars over the years but he was driving a 68 Camero when I met him...wink One of his friends  had a Boss Mustang(year???) Another had a Valiant convertable, there was even a Citation in the group.

However, my very first car purchase came shortly after we were married. My brother stumbled across it.  A 70 Nova 4dr..very orange(I loved that car). But sadly I never got to drive it. I didn't have my license and hubby clamed it evileye

Well, then life happens...three babies and 30 years later I have realized my extreme desire for Chevelles, Malibus and Bueamonts. Then one day I happen upon a Beaumont wagon on Kijiji...I really didn't know they came in a wagon form confuse and truth be told I wasn't sure I liked it. But it sure peeked my curiousity. I did a little surfing and kept coming back to check on it. I gotta tell you she grow on me faster then rust on a bumper..I had to have it biggrin We checked her out and here we are.

So as for my claim to fame...confuseconfuseconfuse

Sending time building plastic models...invaliable
A few years sent drolling over freinds cars...knowledge building.
Buying my first car that I never drove...lesson learned!

Finally realizing my appreciation for Fannie...priceless aww

Cool topic...interesting to read everyones stories. Even though alot of you know each other personally, the rest of us don't. This is a great way to know you a little better. Thanks for sharing smile

Not quite a Canadian Pontiac but a Canadian Oldsmobile. During Expo 67, Esso had George Barris do up 4 1967 Toronados to be given away during the Expo. They were quite the hot item and one came to the farm where I worked and I got a ride in it. I was 15 at the time, big thrill.
