THIS JUST IN!!!

WE'VE UNEARTHED ( AND I MEAN 'UNEARTHED' LITTERALLY ) ANOTHER FAIRLY RARE 'LITTLE' PROJECT. A TRUE '68 BEAUMONT S.D. ORIGINALLY EQUIPPED WITH A 396 AND GET THIS, 3 SPD STD ON THE COLUMN, BENCH SEAT CAR. THIS CAR HAS BEEN SITTING AROUND BACK OF THIS GUYS SHOP FOR EONS, AND I FINALLY GOT ENOUGH GREASE IN THE GUY'S PALM TO CONVINCE HIM TO LET IT GO. HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO REALLY GO OVER THE CAR, IT ARRIVED LATE YESTERDAY AND GOING TO THE YARD TODAY TO PLAY WITH IT. WAS PRETTY HARD TO GO THROUGH IT WERE IT WAS SITTING AS YOU CAN SEE BY THE PICS. WILL KEEP YOU GUYS UPDATED AS WE GO ALONG. GOTTA GO, CHEERS DAVE

Heres a quick update on this '68 s/d
cowl tag info;     C08U29U46TP27
S.T. 68 73837 OS 791005
793  1 23 8  GG
Now because of the early production date ( August 23 1967 ) the vin # is as follows and i'm wondering........is this the 44th '68 beaumont off the assembly line? And, IF it is, could it be the first s/d off the line? You # cruncher guys may know, what say you? As far as it being a 3 spd std on the column, the jury is out on deliberation on that one, although it has a x-shaft bracket on the frame, and a perfect round hole in the firewall for the clutch rod and a set of pedals, it has a auto column still in it?!?! and is a '68 beaumont column. Coffee break is over, going to investigate some more.

Wow !!! Great score.  Column shift is for sure unusual as the brochure states as floor shift only. But you never know. If there is no hole in the floor for it , would have to be column shift. The heavy duty three speed was the base  trany for the SD.

Remember that picture, you have Todd,  of the 69 Pontiac HT from N.B?

It was ordered as a 427 and he thought it would be on the floor, and it was 3 on the tree?

O.K. heres something interesting, first off the floor hump is the original and is unmolested and has no holes, so therefore its definately a column shift car, BUT, not only does it have a auto column in it but we now see that someone cut off the left side of an automatic brake pedal in this,so called, clutch pedal ass'y! I'm going to bet its an automatic, even though theres the proper bracket on the frame for the x-shaft and the hole in the firewall for a clutch rod! Pick a side everyone, anto or standard, and we'll find out next week when i contact George. But still don't have an answer about the production #. Is this the 44th '68 beaumont off the production line in "68?
Thanks to all in clarifications. dave

you know fred, this is confusing too! i see no indication that it had fibre optics at all, the only option i can see is a frt / rear spkr switch on the dash, now i didn't climb right in, but it looks to have had 2 rear speakers in there. they are since gone, but the original package tray liner is there and looks factory cut out, has the orig radio and is a plain a.m.! if george verifys it had fibre optics though, we have a set from a '68 chevelle ss we wrecked out a while back that i kept, so we're good!

Do you have the car that was originally out of Winnipeg that was a 3 speed manual floor shift bench seat car?

Did he give you any history on the car ? Like what happened to the original 396 engine ? Or was this a car he got in this condition ?

Back to Dave's question about whether it was the 44th Beaumont to come down the assembly line.   I guess I wonder as well, were the sequentials the the same across all the product lines, or did each product line have it's own sequentials?

ie:   did the A-bodies have their own sequentials, B-bodies their own sequentials, and X-bodies their own?   Or if there was only 1 assembly line building A, B & X bodies, could the first car have been a Beaumont, the second a Parisienne and the 3rd an Acadian, with sequentials 1, 2 & 3 respectively?
