Motor Swap??? What do you think?
Permalink Closed

I have a 92 Caprice wagon that I've had no luck selling. It runs good, 350/4spd auto.  Need a motor/trans for my 60 wagon and since no one wants the caprice, thinkin about swapping the drivetrain.
The basics are ok, I need to know about any sensors and such. I have the complete car to strip, so taking everything out isn't a problem.
Do you guys think it would be worth it?  Whadda ya think?
Thanks for any responses in advance...

I think that car is too nice to butcher up for parts. It looks really clean.

Those throttle body engines make great swaps. Long running, decent power, good on fuel, not too complicated. A local guy swapped one into an old pickup. Nice setup.

Thats what I think too, But I can't get $1200.00 for it.  Runs nice, 200k a little high, but no oil being burnt. And its fully loaded

I'm with the "car appears to be too good to cut up" crowd.  The drive-train combo in it is one of the most reliable going though and that engine made 300 lb-ft of torque and was rated to tow 5,000 lbs.

The car has been parked for over a year now. The battery is dead. Its Fully loaded. Grey clothe interior. I can try and get some interior pics for you if your interested Bill. It needs a goo cleaning, but I don't remember any rips. Has 16" wheels and tires on it, but they are strickly summer tires.
I only drove it for 2 weeks when I wrote off the S10. Needed a ride right away and this was a fill in til I found my truck. I know if I floored it, it would get up and go....LOL

i say go for it, that motor and trans is a great set up and
would make the 60 a great crusier,
if u sold the wagon, how much of the money would go into
buying another motor and trans anyway

i would cut it up too. I was thinking on doing the same for the 59, and keeping the original 283 and glide stored away. Im probally driveing it down to mexico so it might be a good swap....but then again, theres nothing wrong with the 283, what to do? What engine is in the wagon now??

This is sort of funny because in 30 years it just might be a wagon that everyone and their dog would love to have. I wonder how many wagons have had their drivetrains robbed out of them and parted out over the years and now we all drool over any wagon still in decent shape from the 60s.

That's too nice to part out. I've been looking for another wagon for a while. I didn't know it was available.

I know a guy who parted out a 396 wagon to put the engine in an El Camino.....

I don't know about your area but my guess is if that car was on Winnipeg Kijiji priced at 700 bucks it would be gone in an hour.

$450 would be a screaming deal for that thing in Manitoba...

I think I told him $600 a month ago.... He must figure if he waited long enough I give in.
Maybe I will sell it to him, then I don't have to look out my front window at it.  Its had expired plates since the end of Dec

do the drivetrain swap for your 60 wagon , if your only being offered $450,, after that , fill it with scrap iron and crush it! that's money in your pocket!

That's what I would do,, but then again , I have space to let the hulk sit while I strip it out , no busybody neighbours to hassle me about bylaws....
