Does anyone know how Chrysler engineers settled on how high the wing should be on the original Daytona Charger?
I think they had to make it that high in order to get the tunk lid to open.
I had a chance to buy a 70 Daytona for eleven hundred bucks back in about 1974. I didn't buy it because I thought it was stupid looking. I still think they look stupid but they do sell for big bucks these days.
You guys are right. Most people think that it was some calculated height to reach optimal aerodynamics but because the car had to be made available for sale to the public to satisfy NASCAR rules that's how it was settled on.
A similar situation existed with the Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 aero. The trunk lid slit is just wide enough to allow the spare tire to come out. It actually cuts across the bubble rear glass making for an odd design.

What about the hockey stick spoiler that J-rock makes for Julien's car on Trailer Park Boys!
