Anybody got one of these handy measuring devices?

Working with young guys they are always looking for the latest technology.  My son got one of these a few months ago and after seeing how well it worked I got one too.  These ones measure up to 130 feet with about an 1/8 inch of error.  Great for measuring by yourself or for studs in vaulted walls when it is windy.  Anything that makes life a little easier also makes it a little more enjoyable.

I used one of these when I was measuring Crossiron Mills mall for all it's wall coverings 2 years ago. It's great when a wall is 200 to 300 feet long! Just put a 2 X 4 scrap on the line, and put the laser at the other end, and voila! right to the 1/8"

They are $140 which I don't think is too bad as we are now paying $40 for a 35 foot tape measure.

In a year they will be $70 maybe less.

News report tonight says that Future Shop is selling 50 " LCD TV's for $795, that's 700 less than Boxing Day. They were $15,000 in 1998 when they first hit the market.

Could well be. These things pay for themselves in such a short time as you don't need the guy on the other end when you are taking measurements. When we set up forms for concrete we are always double checking measurements and lots of times you are 30 or 40 feet away. The guy that would be on the dumb end can just keep working so it's quite a time saver. When the guys are doing vaulted walls it's the same thing if there is a little breeze. 12 or 14 feet measurement in 3 seconds, done.

I think I want one. It sure makes sense for a professional. Me, I'm just an odd job around the house guy. I can see how it would be a big help though.

Very cool! I'd have to build trust with it before I cut into an expensive piece of stock.

I can do that.  But if it's for the height of the snow drifts I don't know if you will get an accurate reading.

The funny thing is it really doesn't take any longer to build it square rather than out of square.  A couple measurements at the right time.
