The Best Canadian Poncho Picture
Permalink Closed

This is a thread that tries to sum up in one picture what this site means.  Here is my nomination.  This is Carl Stevenson, me and Verns brother (if I remember right)  desperately trying to beat the sunset in Gimli to get a parts car in good shape enough to tow 1400 kms in November 2009.

Well at the time we only had one hammer and that was what was called for at the time. At our ages we were taking shifts!

John, if you were here right now, I'd.............I'd.............I'd............I don't know what I'd do but you get the picture!!!

Yes Ken, that was an experience. I have to say, I had my doubts for a while when we were trying to get that thing dolly-worthy!!!

Good memories!

Would you believe all broken studs so we put 7/16 hardware store bolts in from the back, put on regular nuts and washers, tightened the crap out of them and he made it all the way home like that???!!!

Actually there was one stud we hadn't managed to break off.  I had my doubts too but we reassured each other.  That sort of thing usually leads to disaster but, hey made it all the way! I have yet to manage to get that wheel off.

I just like the picture because it sort of symbolizes the camradarie and the low buck, kind of obsessive sort of thing we do with the network of good guys we have met.  (plus the sunset was really glorious that night.)

And I had no idea what I had volunteered for when I offered to drive up to Gimli to help!!!

I had forgotten one stud actually held...

That's a great photo, I love to see recovery pics. Man I've pulled cars out of rock piles or had to cut down tree's that had grown through the frame, nothin more fun than suckin a hunk of tin on the trailer with a come-a-long...LOL.
