And for a side note on this subject: If you are ever pulled over and there is a chance of your vehicle being towed, be sure to stop in a private parking lot or a field. They cannot tow your car off private land. (at least not in Alberta). If questioned why you pulled off the road.... reply "for your safety sir!"
I NEVER HEARD THAT BEFORE. WISH I HAD KNOWN THAT 20 YEARS AGO!
Just learned this about 4 years ago. Bought a car from out of province and required an inspection prior to getting plates. Already had insurance but no plates so I "borrowed" plates from one of my own cars. The night was beautiful and I really had the urge to cruise the streets of Calgary. Was heading down Mcleod Tr and one of Calgary's finest decided to pull me over. (Loud Borla exhaust). Since Mcleod Tr is very busy I pulled into a resturaunt parking lot. I handed over insurance but let him know the plate was from my other car. When he returned to the window, he was very nice and said I would have to give him the plate but he would not tow the car because I was no longer on public land. Still gave me the ticket for no registration and all was well. Just had to figure out how to get the car home.
You guys are something else, I put a post up here to remind everyone to clear their car shelters off, and it turns into a bash Roger for having Historic plates on his 29 Ford. Well you guys can all go and F*^" yourself. I dont appreciate that comment about me being dishonest and thinking that I'm above the law either 67SD396. Cheers, Roger Oh and buy the way, I also have a T Bucket with Historic plates on it too.

Wow, are we a little touchy-feely? Did I say that "L79_Acadian" was dishonest or above the law? Nope, not the way I read it. It was a very general statement that you took personally. I'm certainly not on this forum to fight with you Roger or to put anyone down. It was your choice to read into my statement and think that it was directed at you. That was not the point of my statement what so ever. It's not my fault if you feel as though you fit into the group that marchs to the beat of its own drum and have a need to get defensive. Funny part is, I tell a story of myself doing such a thing and getting caught at it. I'm no saint and I break rules too but I don't try to justify my actions by telling the whole CP forum to go F*** themselves.
Oh and by the way, make sure you pull onto private land when they pull you over and be thankful somebody from CP was kind enough to let you know about this little glitch in the law.
my canadian tire one folded up at the cabin could not get there to put it down.was on sale last year 70 bucks so not too bad for a POS.Worry about your own insurance not someone elses.
We had a brand name Tempo fail... trashed the roof of an 84 colt. As for historic plates ... I was offered them for my '85. But you can't drive over 85kph, can't put more than so many miles on it a year ... screw that ... i bought a car to drive it.

so its very limitting, like some classic car insurance?
OK back on shed topic, Question for you folks, does the Township you live in not have restrictions on putting these up"" Here in Scugog north of Oshawa, there are so many being put up that the twp. has notified by way of papers that you need a permit & may ban them after a few have blown over & done damage to neighbouring properties???? Off topic, some of the ins. co. limit your driving & some don't, I did 7000 mi. last summer on the 64 with no restrictions on milage or speed!!!!

i have new building permits and codes cming in april fools day.I have a hectare in the booneys.I if i set one up they want 50 bucks a year for a temp building permit. What a freakin joke.Regulate!
Looking at a 11x24 industrial from Givemeshelter. Anyone have any dealings with them?
They've served their purpose, but I'm ready to move up from the Costco shelter. I'm on my second top, which required me to buy the entire kit to obtain. The tops on these will begin to get brittle in as little as 2 summers. I've always took my top off in the winter and got 3 years, had to, since I'm hard up against my house, and have read too many sad stories of collapse. For anyone looking at buying one, absolutely anchor them well, they're like a 737 wing in wind and will travel!
On the good side, they're a godsend for someone with a garage, and with some lighting, power and air installed, you can get whole a lot done in one. I've been lucky, city's not bugging me for a permit...yet.

I just run regular plates and leave my hood closed at cruise nights and shows. I had one of these storage sheds. The spikes that came with it don't get the job done. Wind does nasty things. From then on I tied the shed down to the boat and trailer in it. Eventually the wind wore holes in the frabric and then the stitching started coming out. I finally just took it down and wouldn't waste my money on another.
My costco shed went flying down the road in the wind and rain, the same night as my neighbour lost 3 of them and his trampoline. Even with cement blocks mine still moved. I wouldn't even consider buying another one of them again and they were $200. each. Never again.
I think they are perfect I put mine up and then covered it with 6 inches of concrete... never have to clean it off
Slacker.... I put 12" of redimix on mine. Unfortunately, it sank into my yard in the spring. Makes a cool man cave though. Could almost double as a bomb shelter with a little more work.
FWIW... I got regular plates that have "DR CAS" on them. It was my birthday present to myself. I have classic insurance for 10K miles a year. I think I need a road trip...

I have the costco shed ram set into the cement patio in the back yard. keeps the snow off the bikes and the bikes out of the shop.
As for historic plate, i have them on the 55 truck. my insurance company doesn't care what plates are on the truck as long as it has plates, I asked because after the first year there was no way i wasn't going to rack up the miles. mto cares. i'm thinking i'll put veterans plates on it this new year when the sticker is up
