OK guys lets stay on topic here every province has a program for this im thinkin, Here in bc we have collector plates for cars 25 years and older. We are allowed to have period correct modifycations, the plate covers fully modifyed cars for pre 58.We also have antique plates which restrict use heavily. So,we get 2 plates.Costs me about 230 a year for a collector car.Not sure how its done in other provinces but I thought we could compare here!We have a organization here called SPECIALTY VEHICLE ASSOCIATION OF BC that recently sent out surveys to owners asking them what they would like to see in the program and they sent the results to our public insurance company{ICBC].Some changes were made,at least somebody listened to us for once. check out icbc.com and svabc.com to see how its done here in BC....Timbuk
I could be wrong but I don't think we have anything in place here (Manitoba), at least for our 60's cars. Maybe the real antiques, Model A's and such but I don't see anything on the musclecars.
How's that for staying on topic

yeah , i think manitoba,s gov,t is prolly the most anti classic auto outta all of canada. it would be intereting to see what they have in place for classics, after seeing how they like to take the lightly hit vehicles off of thier roads for salvage.
I asked specific questions regarding NB's policies concerning antique plates. All I got was vague unsure answers. They told me that the car must be 25 years old, and used only to go to and from shows, and for repairs. The insurance for antique autos : must be plated antique and used for shows only. Both the insurance & plates are much cheaper than regular cars. I wont be plating my Beaumont as an antique next year, I prefer to go where I want when I want. The antique plate/registration was $18 for the year and insurance was $11 a month. It will be much more next year.
In Alberta you can put vintage plates on your vehicle 25 yrs old or older. No restrictions on modifications. You can either run with the plate they give you or register your old plate against the new one and run the old plate but keep the new one in the car. It costs about 40 bucks but its a one-time fee no renewal costs. Theres a restriction " not for daily use", meaning for shows etc. The fine print basically says don't take it to work. If you get pulled over you should be going to a show,a Canadian Poncho Club event lol, repairs or the carwash probably !
I'm not sure on the specifics but Manitoba does have antique plates but I think they are much like what stone says for NB. To and from certain shows and parades and to and from repair, not much good if you really want to drive your car.
At first, I could not imagine having insurance, that restricted my use of my car, for a show or parage only.. Now I see, that some "only use their car" for those reasons! I wanted insurance for driving the car where ever I wanted, when ever I wanted.. Zehrs insurance told me, everyday was a Sunday drive, as long as I was not driving it to work.. I have antique plates on the car, but I am taking them "off" and putting on my reg plates, as I remembered that my tires are radial, and my exhaust is not factory, and my battery is a gel battery, and my radiator is aluminum.. I don't want the cruise night lawyers to report me.... I think I can sell enough parts, to pay for the $74.00 sticker...
I'm with Lant"s Ins. the only requirement they ask is that you are going to a car related event, doesn't matter where, or the "Sunday" test drive!! In Ont. a car must be 30yrs. old & not be MODIFIED for "Historic Plates" at 18 bucks a yr. you can put YOM [yr. of manufacture plate] if the number is cleared by the MOT & plates pass their inspection for reg. price of 74 bucks a yr. OR the reg plate at same price!!! My insurance is $180 per yr.

Keep in mind that insurance, and plates in some provinces are one in the same. Here in Alberta, they are two distinctly different things.
Here, insurance is run by private enterprise, but plates (or registration) is run by the government, through privately run registries.
Insurance gives you the right to register your car to drive it, and collector car insurance can very well limit when or what your car is used for. (no driving to work, mileage restrictions, etc)
Registration is to drive your car on the public roads, and again Antique Auto registration limits when or where you drive - mainly to car shows, to the garage for repairs, in a parade, etc. With Antique Auto plates, you can cross reference vintage plates and run vintage plates. Antique Auto plates are only like $50 / life, compared to $50 / year. Hence the restrictions.
I've said it before, I'd hate to be involved in an accident running only Antique Auto plates when I'm out driving around. Realistically I'm driving on public roads without valid registration, and some kid's smart uncle lawyer might somehow twist the facts that even if his nephew ran a red light and T-boned me, it would somehow become my fault.

"Collector Car Plate program in MB MPI responded in writing this week to a formal request MAAC made to the Public Utilities Board that MPI provide the same kind of Collector Plate Program that ICBC has in BC. Their answer was a "No", to all aspects of our request. From the wording of their response it seems they do not figure this will be any priority for even discussion for the next little while. That's from the Community and Corporate Relations Dept.. So, back to negotiations with the Services departments. We will not give up."
MPIC has nothing on the website for "collector" plates. I know they were available at one time but... they were third party liability ONLY... NO insurance on the "collector car" regardless of fault. I would be happy enough with a volume discount on the five vehicles I insure. Gary

Also in MB you can pick the use of any car you drive... for example "all-purpose" or "pleasure" and insurance is priced accordingly and use is restricted...but the price is nowhere near as cheap as in BC... i'm surprised it's that cheap given the value of old cars, although with infrequent use the likelyhood of an accident goes down...
So my 455 is on collector plates $238 and no aircare required. The yellow GTO is $1200 and has to go thu aircare. We still need some work on our ICBC as well
used to be able to get a multicollector plate slap it on the one you are driving I think it was 3 or more.Yes must have a reg insurance car to have collector plates no driving to work or skool

I was thinkin about trying to get Collector plates for my car, but it kinda modified, chrome under hood, wrong engine, aluminum rad, etc and it's not old enough for modified plate, Stupid insurance company anyhow, LOL. I sent an email asking about modified, if they were gonna update the year, NO was the response. YUK
i am in bc and have the multi collector plate, you must have three collector cars to get this plate and another vehicle on the road full time to have this plate, they only give you a plate for the rear of one car and you just transfer the rear plate from car to car, no front plate at all and the cops say you have to have a front plate in bc, lol
mod plaTE WAS 48 FOR ALOT OF YEARS NOW ITS 58.wHEN THE SURVEY CAME OUT ALOT OF US TRIED TO GET IT TO 70.........NO LUCK.yea watch you get a front plate ticket with that multi plate, next year you will need one for that boat
