RE: Any good new car negotiators?

I have ruled all all used cars at this point, but may end up back at square one soon. The car is a gift for the wife, neither of us have ever owned a new car, so we are still stuck on that. I personally doubt that I ever will, for myself. Imagine the muscle that 27k would buy! I'll either buy a nearly new truck for myself once this is done, or buy another classic/muscle and keep driving auction clunkers. That 4dr Dodge that I posted recently has peaked my interest, but I'm not getting involved in anything else until the dust settles from this Cruze fiasco.

The G8 is interesting....I'm going to do a little homework on it....tks.

West Jet starts Hamilton-Moncton May 1   hoping to go in that first two weeks  Unless I drive the Pontiac to you...

So I have to make room in the garage? ( Actually, I've got to FINISH the Chevelle)

Looks like the deal might be dead....the best I could get works out to more than the sticker price(due to moonroof). I would expect that he'll call back with a better offer, but I'm not sure.  I cant bring myself to pay more than the sticker price, when the media tells me that dealerships are offering unprecendented incentives. I'll keep looking. I havent driven a Toyota yet, but at least they offer 0% financing and/or cash back. Whether its a package designed to make you feel like you are getting a bargain or not, I dont know. I just need to end up feeling good about the decision. If they are intentionally trying to wear me down, its working, but another dealership will reap the benefits if they break me and I decide to just give them what they are asking. Damn, I hate this process, I have a headache.

I think if a dealer could come up with a way to make purchasing a new car fun, they'd be a huge success.

another great idea Todd.  My 'consultant' was an ex-golf pro, if we worked out the details over 18 holes somewhere, I bet we'd save a week of crap. Or maybe, sat close to a brass pole with a jug of beer, we might not be so picky about minor details.

I'll talk cars with you anytime.biggrin

My wife LOVES Toyotas. Ran her old Corolla up to 300 thousand+ kms, then her 1994 Tercel up to just over 400 thousand kms., and now her 2002 Camry has 240 thousand kms. It drives really well.
I know between the Tercel and Camry she had to replace a rad and a wheel bearing. All the rest has been normal parts (battery, brakes, etc.).

I thought the scratch and chip protection was a joke until a car came in a few months back loaded with stone chips. The company ok'd the repair which was over a grand.

The deal is open again. I would have never considered paint protection, I assumed it was like 'scotchguard'. Now Todd has me thinking!? I cant imagine a daily driver without a scratch, and I'f I financed the $799, and they covered a $1000 repair later on, we'd still only be even. If I accept it, I WILL demand that GM include a lobster dinner, and the ingredients for Carl to make his own donuts. The main reason for this deal proceeding is that wife REALLY wants this one. So I ask myself, do I get the deal I want, or does she get the car she want? I cant get both. She doesnt like the Corolla. Not having to go through this process again, has considerable value to me too. Tks buds

Sorry I got on this late; but Google APA (Automobile Protection Agency). If you become a member, I think  $75.00, they will shop a deal for you. in a competitive market say Montreal or Toronto. Then take that number & use in your negotiations locally. It has worked for us in 3 new car purchases

Thats a good idea!!! wink

BUT    You still get stuck with "adminstration charges" "dealer prep" "destination charges" "mud flaps" $235.00 wheel locks (worth $50.00)

AND  then you have to get out of the "Business Managers office"   She/He has paint protection, scratch protection, extended warranty, financing insurance,  car insurance, life insurance,  tire protection insureance, almost mandatory "security branding" which is stickers,    to mention a "few"   GOOD LUCK!!!

I have a buddy that is extremely good at negotiating with dealers. He recently bought a new ford pick up and spent 2 hours haggling with them. They finally gave into his price. When they did give in he told them you even mention extra paint protection, undercoating yadayada I will walk out of here with no deal.

Its now in the driveway. In total, it took about 10 days to come to an agreement. Having never done it before, I am now assuming that it may have been excessive. I got a total fo $2265.30 in discounts (some from factory). Whenever I showed up at the dealership, I stated that I didnt have a lot of time, and it seemed to spare me from going through their 'process'.  I can only assume that the business dude was warned....its funny because I actually wanted it undercoated. I wasnt 'offered' anything after I came to an agreement with the consultant. (stock photos)

I'll never really know if I did well. I wanted the feeling that I was treated fairly, and thats what I got, just a feeling. Way too much smoke and mirrors in the new car buying process for me, and most of the smoke was directed straight at my sphincter. I dont like deception when dealing with $$.  Great people at Clarks, and I cant fault them for doing their job on the sales end. "Canadas Oldest Chevrolet Dealer"

I did get dinged with an admin fee, and some other nonsense under $100, so I didnt get away scott free.  My lobster is a cannibal.  In all seriousness, maybe one day when you are in NB, we can take go for a spin in the firetruck for a coffee, or on Base in a dual v8 monster. Thanks all for your input.
