old radiators

Ran into a guy at the flea market that was looking for a radiators for a 49 american pontiac. I have one from a 50 and assume it is the same?

He says he has two but the rad shop tells him the tanks are gone. Is this common?
Does old age cause this or are they just wore out?
The one I have looks in excellent shape but it had a nest of mice in it. Will this likely cause it to fail? I know mice pee is very corrosive.

I don't want the guy to drive down from leduc to get another faulty rad.

thanks
George

You could test yours - block the inlet and outlet, fill with water, and use your pressure tester - if no leaks, then it is good, eh?

Don't leave it outside filled with water afterwards smile.gif

Or you could take it to you local radiator shop and have them pressure test it.
