RE: I finally found it...in Texas!!!

why not do a road trip? see the sites. meet people on the way. check out scrap yards. and get out of this friggin cold weather!! 2 years ago a friend and i went down to georgia to bring back a vehicle. took a motorhome, slept when we felt tired. watch tv in the back. i would definitely do it again. i have one friend that want to go to denver for a car. i said just give me enough heads up to book off work.

OK, here's what's happening. After a few months of checking out a couple of other leads...that actually didn't lead anywhere!

Alot of phone calls made and alot of waiting for folks to return my calls...that were never returned.

We finally made the decision to get the quarters from Texas. We had hope to get the entire car but we just couldn't swing that. So I placed the order this week and with any luck we'll have the parts by the end of next week biggrin

One baby step closer...

I have a car hauler, utility trailer 6x8 and an enclosed trailer.  The hauler is for sale and a guy in Texas wants it.  We are negotiating a deal currently for him to build me an engine as this is his business and I have all the components for a 64 327 4 bbl I would like to have built with original parts.

Currently the plan is for me to drive the hauler down for him to inspect along with all the engine parts.  I will leave the parts for the build and return home with the hauler.  At this point, I would be looking for a load to bring back in order to cover cost of the trip.

Upon completion of the engine build, I will deliver the hauler with a Pontiac Vibe on the back and return home with the long block in the back of the Vibe.

My hauler is a Hodges, extended frame, GMC crew cab dually with a 19' bed on the back.  I can also pull a trailer with it if needed. Fuel is very expensive and mpg is really hurt using the trailer.  I have had to turn down several jobs with my pickup and enclosed trailer due to fuel cost and long trips.  Main downside here is I live in Michigan near border crossing, Sarnia, ON and that is about as far as I want to go at this time.  I couldn't travel any farther than say Ontario.

In my experience, I have been all over the US & Canada and parts in Texas are some of the best.  I know a dealer in Arizona that buys old cars from Texas, ships them back to Arizona and sells them as Arizona parts in order to get a premium price.  I don't like parts hunting in Texas because of the snakes, bad news.

If someone has whole cars or major parts for pickup in Texas, OK or Arkansas, I may be able to help.

The cost of gas is the exact reason why we are not going to Texas ourself! I friend had offered a car trailer for us to use to bring the car back from Texas. But the price of gas really was hard to justify going...although I was really game. So it was with fixed feelings the decision was made.
