Wow! A 69 Strato Chief 4 door sedan with a 427. I wonder how many of those were made?!
It was probably an ex RCMP car. The Burnaby highway patrol had one as an unmarked car in black. It was parked a block away from my house once years ago, and I spotted the emblems. And when he drove it away, it was pretty loud and had a wicked idle. Had the antenna's and a radios and a flip up red light on the dash.

This ad of a 1962 Pontiac with a 409 is the most interesting to me. IF this is true then it provides us with evidence that 409's found their way into '62's, up until now we have seen 409's first appearing in 1963 Pontiacs.
Incredible and fascinating guys. Thanks for sharing all those interesting ads from the past. If i was to dig up some of my many old mags from the past i would probably find many more. I can not get enough of this kind of stuff. I have some issues of Canada's own TRACK AND TRAFFIC magazine from 1963 to 1967. I should see about anything in these issues that might be of interest to the Canadian Pontiac brotherhood here. I remember about 20 years ago reading a story about a 1963 Chev Impala 4 door sedan with a factory original installed 409/409HP with factory 4 speed. Stuff like this just gives me goose bumps. Cheers. George.

Interesting alright, we'll never know, but most likely a warranty replacement from GM. The 348 would no longer have been available .
just the same..a 348 62 Pontiac 4dr sedan !!!!!!

Cliff Bristow yes the Rat Patrol was supposed to be a ZL1. My hometown Three Hills. Too bad he torched the place and went to jail for insurance fraud. I have a 71 Cheyenne pickup sold there, too. Lots of racing history here ! I would like the yellow 427 convertible please.... haha

Elroy , the 427 in my 67 was apart at Bristow's and pistons, solid lifters, cam all work done on warranty. I had a set of 12 inch wrinkle slicks on mags in the garage when Cliff torched the place. He was going to use them for the Rat Patrol. He also had a jet boat with a 427 in it if you remember that unit. I could have bought that for $2500.00 but thought too much. I bought a 1957 chev 2 door H.T. 327 with 4 speed from Cliff also. It was that or a 1967 plymouth GTX convertible with 426 hemi 4 speed. $3000.00. If I only knew then what I know now.

To my knowledge the 327 was the largest V8 offered in 1962, rated at 300 HP. The 348 tripower was only ever rated at 280 HP but was not offered past 1961 in Canadian Pontiacs.
