RE: Cool Barn Find 59 Vette going up for auction

The auctioneers aren't doing much of a service to not check numbers and pump up the sales a bit!! People typically overpay for projects, then get it in deep... this will probably end up that way. $8k is "reasonable", but at the same time i think thats too cheap to start -someone will pay alot more, but in the end (unless it turns out to be rare) it will have to be a labour of love...

We should start a fantasy bid thread on this car...

You guys are missing something pretty cool. Check out the TALBOT MIRROR. Wonder where that one came from?

im with Earl on leaving it the way it looks and making it a driver, especially with that patina and the stripes, that would be awesome!!

Agreed.  Road worthy and as is in appearene.  That would be cool...

I like the "make it a driver" idea. That is the first thing I thought because it will cost so much to restore. Every piece of chrome is pitted and rusty, even the interior chrome is rough. I've always thought that Corvette owners are a breed of their own so I would only consider a car like this if it were under $10,000. The auction will likey find someone with too much money. The other option for a car in this condition is to make it a retrorod with a new corvette drivetrain. Still big bucks....

I'm sure there's an interesting history on this one. Is the wood shift knob stock?
If it has any provenance someone like Peter Klutt from Legendary will buy it. Heck, the auction will be right in his back yard.

should be interesting-Carl is right market is dead-Earl is right Toronto people will be there-Todd is right I quoted 12-14 for his x father in laws and the thing sold around 20 in days then posted at 30 !!!! I think its worth 10 but the reserve is likely higher

I doubt theres any worthwhile history or they would know about it-any way you look at it it would cost more to restore than it would be worth-10 good car for driver paint and some cragars-entry level price gets people going

there was a 55 on kijiji last week no ownership for $8500 but it was missing stuff-the guy had a basket 57 too for $2500 he said people kept telling him they wanted them but nobody was showing up-

Im with you Todd I like it-I like the find-but your right its going to go too high

Hey Ken, you will remember back in the day when they were just cars...... cool cars but still just cars and not too far out of reach for most blue collar guys.
I think it would be great to just get it running and safe to drive, then leave the old school patina look. How many dickweed Corvette Club Clowns (yes NCRS guys I'm talkin about you) would that pissoff?

yes, I remember them being a little higher standard but not everything has to be correct and everyone competing about dollar value-they invented the #'s match thing too-what does that really mean ? if its not a pristine original still in the hands of the original owner it usually means either the previous owner's were too cheap to update/modify it-drove it regularly or just some guy went from swap meet to swap meet gathering the parts to make it appear correct and not messed with (theres also the guys with the stamps and muffler cement !)

I know a fellow that has a real 427 4spd 66 coupe that drives his vette as a daily driver. He gets hate mail left on his car to fix it up and or clean it. Who the F**k promoted these A**h**es as judges for the treatment of these cars. Not everybody has the $$$ to make one of these shiny. I hope somebody drives the sh** out of this car. By the way any guy can google a nice vette of this vintage for under 40K so this one is 10K and that's it.

By the way I'm not mad but there is way to judges out there. Just save it.

66 bb driver eh

this was mine-it was a 66 427/390 4-speed car, updated to a 454 in the 1970's, I added the goldlines for a "correct" look-drove it daily-to work-to bars-and took care of it, there my friend's 3 year old sitting in it !

the 61 is a "barn find" I had-lotsa fun with it had a 350 auto though-needed cragars !

Well me and Van Gogh are heading to the auction, probably will be to rich for me but if it is any thing under $9000 it will be our next Gasser project, now that Andy has his 41 Willy's finished we plan on starting the next project. It will drive the purest crazy when we are done with it but, it would be a quality build not a hack job.

These solid axle Corvettes bring way too much at any auction. If it still has the vin plate attached. Some T.O. Corvette club a$$hat with too much cash wanting to show off for the "clubby" a$$hat friends will pay over $20k is my bet. Then they will send it out to be over restored without lifting a finger themselves other than to write a cheque!
I loved these cars years ago and had a '60, but the clowns that seem to own them now only care about bragging rights and looking down their noses at people.
These were a handful to drive with the kingpin front end, vague steering & brakes but they were definitly old school fun!

Im thinking staight axle gassser baby!!!! but Im shure you are right Earl will be way out of my price range! I might go to the auction just incase.

 like this ?

One of the my most coolest memories was 4or5 years ago, me and the wife where cruzin Cliffton hill in Niagrafalls on my 70's style Triumph chopper when a 59 Corvette gasser with hilborn injection and all pulled up beside me at the the lights we kind of nodded at each other and mad a little noise! I was like a little boy! I remember going to the falls with my dad and watching the cool cars I always said I was going to cruize the fall with a cool ride and that night I got one for the bucket list

Yes, a red 66 390 HP 427 4 spd. I won't post his picture because I'm not sure if he would like the attention. By the way I like your cars.

Well my friend this is the car you seen-its a 62 (better looking)-he has owned it since 1971--traded a Sportster for it-spent many years in jail during the 80's the car sat in Thorold out front Cosgrove engines-the car went back on the road in the 1990's the car frequents the Falls main drags
