Beaumont in Musclecar Review
Permalink Closed

I was digging through my old magazines to find pics of Joe & Susie Lizon's 1965 L79 Beaumont Sport Deluxe which 427Carl had posted pic (1965 Chevelle L79???) for sale in the Non-Canadian Pontiacs For-Sale Section (see pics I posted there) here on CP; found it in November 2007 Issue of Musclecar Enthusiast pages 32 & 33.

Anyway while digging I found another one in the July 2007 Issue of Musclecar Review on pages 86 - 87 - 88 & 89. This one is a 1967 Beaumont SD-396 Convertible owned by Bill (Beaumont Bill) and Amy Wertheim.

See pics posted below:

L35 396/325HP 396, M40 TH400 automatic, 3.31 12-bolt Posi-traction rearend, vinyl bucket interior, 14-inch steel wheels, Firestone wide Oval F70-14 red stripe tires, special parts - A51 group - Sport Deluxe interior trim included bucket seats with center console, exterior trim and special wheel covers.

1 of 65 built in 1967, sold new at Jim Tubman Motors in Ottawa, exterior paint color is Bolero Red, SD model trim included styled grill and dash, simulated rear "louvers" on the quarter panels and ribbed lower rocker guards, Sport Deluxe chrome trim emblems with SD initials appearing in black graphic stripes down eash side, and hood with ribbed chrome inserts.

Other features and options included folding convertible top, power steering, power brakes and the F70-14 red-stripe tires.

Bill also owns a blue 1968 SD-396 series convertible, for that one see "Canadian Cousin" in Spring 2005 issue of Muscle Car Review. All of Bill's cars are in the CP Beaumont registry here on site.

I wonder if he added the quarter emblems or added the stripes? We know he had to have added one or the other, since they never came with both.

It would be nice to see the Vintage sheet.

Did you ever see this car in the flesh?.
Although David's a great guy, upon close inspection this car really needed everything!.
Besides its low production the best thing it had going for it was the original L35 lump but it was all a downhill ride from there on..
Just trying to help you sleep better Ken!.

Hi Carl.  I thought they came standard with the quarter emblems and the stripes were an option ??

If you got stripes, then there were no quarter emblems. My car is an original stripe car and there are no holes in my quarter panels for the emblems. The quarter emblems on the car in the pictures appear lower than they should be but that could just be the camera angle.

thanks-I expected it required complete restoration but on the other hand the car appeared very much complete-never seen it in person-I think I told him 20-and I think I'd still be ok with that-rather have a nice two door hardtop SD 4-speed but the chance of a low production rag-

did you buy it ? we haven't heard anything of it since sold-it was rumoured out west

I recall talking to a guy in N.B. back at Christmas 1995 about this car Bill has-it was silver then and $16,000-the car had been driven there from the Belleville area-he later sold it back to Ontario where it got restored to its present state (as pictured).

Bill came to see my 67 SD bench seat car-I was on the look out for him for a rag after that-I tipped him Helmut's yellow one (Bill Brown's old car) learned Bill bought an SD rag from a guy named Helmut I called him on the birddog only to learn there were two Helmut's and both had 67 SD rags !!!! what are the odds-sorry Bill

Bills cars are not inexpensive cars...   Would he not know, to have either stripes, or emblems, but not both?

Have to agree that the stripes make the car.  My car has been without the stripes for as long as it has been in the family (30 yrs).  Right now, it's in pieces but it will get stripes when it goes back together.  Here are a couple of the last pictures I have of it in one piece.

This is a picture of a twin to my car from 20 years ago.  This car is somewhere in the US from what I have heard.

that's interesting that Cheetah is a 736 vin yet has a big block hood I was under the impression that early cars had flat hoods-unless Conroy added it ?

That is an interesting point you make about the hood Ken. My bet is that Conroy added it like you said. Or did the hood come with all big block cars? Do we know of any early BB SD cars with a flat hood. We know that there are early small block SD cars with flat hoods but what about early BB cars?

13617 vin Malibu SS with L34 396 had flat hoods-so I assumed-736 vin beaumonts would have it too-----------------if Conroy actually added the hood-they kinda would be somewhat responsible for GM doing it later ? interesting subject-we need input
