ONTARIO - A snowmobiler who was airlifted to hospital with critical injuries following a crash on a Huron County trail succumbed to his injuries Sunday.
Huron OPP said a passing motorist stopped to help the rider after seeing the crash site about 400 metres south of Centennial Rd. Friday around 4:30 p.m. The victim was found on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs trail away some distance away from his machine.
Police said the trail was closed and it appeared that the rider struck a large washed out area created by melting snow earlier in the week.
Police identified the victim as Douglas Reid, 57, of Bluewater.
Police urged snowmobilers to heed warnings about trail conditions and stay off closed trails.
Sorry to hear this Carl. But sure makes a guy think. I only have had my sled out once this year and well doing a 100mph down the trail thought what if. I think its time to put it up 4 sale. To young to die and to old to heal.

Sorry to hear of your loss of a friend Carl. Yes, life is short, and sometimes we forget just how fast our situation can change. A human trait I guess. But we still do the things we love and make us feel alive. We've all probably beat the odds more than once...and somtimes we don't.

This can be a reminder that we are here on earth to live life to the fullest. If you aren't doing what you want in life, you better get after it because as Carl has said "life is short".
Very sad news to say the least. We all take "calculated risks" from time to time. What would life be like without giving it a try, go and have some fun? I've known a few people in my life that never thought of taking a risk. And they are all generally unhappy people. No-doubt your friend passed away happy and was enjoying himself at the time.
May your friend Doug rest in peace.
