Had a 89 and a 01. Good cars both. 89 was dads last Dofasco company car at retirement, paid $1. Paid $20k for the 01, so I'd say $1500 is a fair price for a P71. The 01, although a sweet running and handling car, was totaly uncomfortable for me...there was simply no place to rest my left foot. I actually made simple deadpedals that could be self installed in this platform. Made and sold a handfull through Crownvic.net. Still have one left. Do wish I still had the 89.
Was behind a stealth unmarked dark blue P71 today, man that car looks tough. Will always have a soft spot for them.
Happy hunting.

if you want to drive up to sudbury, we have piles of them around here, and with the recent rise in fuel, the prices of these v8,s really take a tumble. they are great cars, its all we ever drive as daily cars.

Yup,between Walkers and Burl Oak. They are workin' the hell out of single people in that lane, while on ramp jumpers go unnoticed.Didn't we ALL pay for that asphalt?

I am going to bid on one on March 12. There are two, an 06 and an 07, both around 220km. I have seen several at the same auction go from $1000-$2000. I am not in Ontario, but have been waiting for this auction, and I saw this thread.

I just got back from the auction today, there were 3 Crown Vic interceptors. The 2008 170k sold for $3100.00, the 2007 215k sold for $1800.00, and the 2006 220k sold for $1400.00 They are all in great mechanical condition(quick inspection). The body and interior have extra
holes everywhere from where equipment was removed. Its my new daily driver.

Lt1s have more get up and go, but that style was last produced in 1996, they are
expensive to tune, the opti spark set up is in the $1000 range to service and its location means a leak in the water pump of any amount wipes out the opti spark, and you have to ensure the new water pumps seals 100% or it takes out the new opti spark,
its the only real design issue with that motor, but its well documented and u can learn all about it on the online ss impala forums

the p71 vics are evrywhere and made up until this year, they go good and can
take a beating, but not bite you scary,  some transmission issues in the early 2000s and a strange traction control system that u had to reach over and turn it off in the glove box if you needed to spin the tires out, like in the winter, it would save the trans, by limiting the input, but u get stuck in 3 inches of snow

i have an 96 LT1 caprice, tow pack, limited slip, heaving duty cooling suspension car,and it will bite you hard if your not careful, i had to get one from the usa because they are short supply because of age, but the p71 is probably a better overall choice as a daily driver, ull have to pay a primium for a non white car and likely have to go to the USA

I disagree with your statement about the LT1 cars being expensive to tune. I've driven LT1 cars nonstop since 2000 and have spent less on them than most people spend on other daily drivers!

However, I will not get in to a whizzing match online about it! That happened once before. Been there, done that!

As the disclaimers say, your personal experiences may vary...

you are corect about being generally inexpensive to operate them, i think they are great

its more the what if factor if you need to deal with the opti spark issue,  it was the main complaint from our city yard mechanics and they kept them in stock to keep them in service, so far i have been luckyso i keep buying them, knock on wood, 96 has a different design that properly vents the opti cap, to improve them, 94-95s can be retofitted,
quality delpi replacement is $400 US, plus the instaltion and the waterpump $100 and instalation

Maybe the Caprice is different, I know the F body is but 94 SS's have the vented Optispark already in them. I have read that is a big factor in longevity.
