RE: Opinions on Max Pacioretty hit and injury ?

Back in the 60's if this had have happened the benches would have cleared and the players would have dealt with it. Bettman has created a goon show style of hockey, just look at the way players crash the nets and run the goalies.Politicians are becoming involved now, it is becoming difficult to watch anymore! I am not sure it is entertainment!

I have to agree with DrCas as Pac dipped to skinny by and Chara simply finished his check while looking down ice. The forearm finish to checks is prevalent in all leagues now and is allowed as long as the arm doesnt go to the face. That looked a little high I might say but pretty unintentional with a 7 foot beast. Might be an interference call but those are missed everyday. Man even the PM commented on this one.... I think the pansies and Moms will prevail and ruin hockey one day as it once was and the hitting and fighting will be gone. I saw a Hockey Canada parent survey this year and it scared me as to how it was written. It was obviously written by some anti-contact personnel in a way that asks which way would you like hitting eliminated, A, B or C ? I do agree though in absolutely clamping down on head hits. My son in Jr had a great hit this year too riding a player down the bench and he hit that upright too. Was cool to give but not so cool to receive I'm sure and the 20 yr old league tough guy was unhurt and thats a good thing !

Chara hit him violently so he is responsible period. I'm certainly not saying anything other than suspend the guy for two games or so.

This league is a gong show, they suspended Gilles for 9 games last week and the films show the guy basically did nothing, Kubina got 2 games for nothing last night and a kid is carried out on a stretcher and Bettman shrugs his shoulders.  Komisarek pulled a stupid hit from behind tonight on Carcillo, bad hit, we'll see if anything happens.

As far as responsibility goes, we could hold alot of people responsible is this case.  Chara is responsible for the hit but he has no resposibility for how the boards were designed or built.  In any investigation, the second step is to determine what other factors contributed to the incident and how it could be prevented in the future.

The Komisarek hit looked an awful lot more like intent to injure than the Chara hit.  It was brutal.  Maybe they need to take the hitting out of hockey all together if these guys are going to keep pulling crap like this.

My next thought goes back to the intent to injure.....  what the heck is a hockey fight?  Let me guess, they are faking it for entertainment just like pro wrestling disbelief

If these fights were off the ice, there would be guys with crimminal records but its ok to do because it is part of a game.  I don't get the thinking.  A fight in any other sport is grounds for a long suspension and a fine.  Hockey has a brutal image to live up to from years gone by, yet when somone gets hurt we all jump on the bandwagon and say that it's out of hand.

Anyone watch a lacross game lately?  They use the "sticks" to the body and it's legal!

So far our opinion poll is 2 to 1 suggesting some level of intent to injure.

NHL hockey sucks ... has since the early'80s. So I really don't care about the state of so-called "Canada's game" (it's owned by Americans now).
I watched the hit several times. No over-the-top intent to injure, he just wanted to hit him hard.
Just my opinions.

I think it was intent as well.
Your playing hockey for a couple of years, you know where to hit. You know that spot (the way its designed there) not to hit someone there.

As for the other videos posted, what the hell, hitting someone in the head with a stick especially a sucker hit.

Look at the popularity of UFC with the young people, maybe the NHL goveners are trying to get  that same crowd to watch hockey. At 60 yrs. of age we have likely all played a lot of  hockey. I don't like the head shots but Ienjoy watching the  stars play the game. Irecently bought a pair of skates , haven't skated in 15 yrs. I take my 4 yr. old granddaughter  skating now.You can take the old  guy out of the game but you can't take the game out of the old  guy.

I'd say certainly some intent there, however, the Canadiens have somewhat brought it on themselves by being the Canadian Dive Champions for 3 or 4 decades. That said, it definitely warrants a suspension. Bettman's league sucks.

What the hell does whatever team he plays on have anything to do with it? 22 year old kid with a broken neck and you have the gall to say he brought it on himself because of his jersy? You disgust me. I love a tough game, open ice hits, keep your head up, good old fashioned punch up, not coreographed heavyweights. Intent to injure is not part of the game. EVER!

By the way, Pacioretty is an American, not that it matters to me but I have read that there is a lot anti Canada stuff going on from south of the border.

I'm not suggesting that Pacioretty deserved a severe injury because he plays for the Canadiens. However, when playing a team, particularily a division rival that is familiar with  the Canadiens approach, the hits are a little harder, and the play becomes dirtier. Like all things like this, it's rarely one element that causes it, rather, a combination of things. Unfortunately, today's NHL metes out punishment based on who the players are. You can be sure there would have been a lengthy suspension if the hit was given by a no-name 4th liner on a 'star'. But wishing death on a guy? Classy buddy.
