My son was out at Beer League hockey and got home at about 1:30 am EST. He came and got me right away and we both sat there in disbelief as the live aerial shots from Japan came in to CNN.
All schools were closed here in Port Alberni today..we did not recieve any wave..although all students and teachers were asked to stay home, as they were expecting a small wave but could not be sure. We have 3 schools that could be affected and many roads to and from those schools. Port Alberni had a large tidelwave hit us in 1964 from the Alaskan earthquake so we don't take any chances around here, any tidelwave for us, is taken to heart. I am truly saddened by the video coming from Japan,and hope Canada is sending aid TODAY!!
I under stand they had no notice but the people just standing there on the bridge should know enough to get moving. Crazy stuff.

Dunno what I'd do, but look on the far side of the bridge.... The water is flowing over there too, As long as the bridge holds, might be the safe place.

Wow. I have a friend whose wife is from Osaka. Any word on if it was hit? Hope her family is okay.
I have a son married to a japanese girl and they have a 21/2 year old daughter and they live in Kashihara, located west of Osaka about 75-100 km, he emailed me last night at 830 (1230pm their time) and everything was ok and he was actually at work, should be talking to him today sometimes
