OK, as embarassed as I am, I am still going to ask for help. I completely removed my dash, 'refurbished' it, and reinstalled it. It was a big job for a newb like me. Everything is back in place, minus a few bulbs. I tried to start it, but no go. New battery last fall, everything appears to light up as it should. At first I thought that I didnt tighten the battery cable enough, no clicking sound or turning over or anything. The ignition connection is just a multi slot connector, so it seems hard to mess up, but I found a way. I would be very appreciative for any suggestions, that I could start the process of elimination and sleep well at night again.
It was originally a 283 column auto, now a 454 4 sp on the floor. Now that you mention the neutral switch, it does seem to be acting as if that is the problem. I am not sure how the builder would have taken care of that when changing to a muncie, but maybe someone knows the most likely scenario. Where does the neutral switch connect if it were factory? Thanks for the suggestion....I have a glimmer of excitement! (fuses all appear good)
Yes, if that is what happened, then you likely need to go under the dash by the steering column and look for 2 wires, I think 12 gauge. If my memory is right, there should be 2 purple wires in a double connector. If so, put a jumper wire across them and try it.
Don't forget to push the clutch in when you try it!!!

Carl you da man! I am at home for lunch and did a quick check. There was no disconnection, but I just turned the column housing fully to the left and the 454 growled at me. I had dropped the column somewhat to access the dash cluster and must have moved the housing to the right with all the manipulation going on. Its sounds like a little deal, but you made my weekend. I wont even repeat what I went through to diagnose the problem prior to asking for help, but you can imagine. Thank you Thank You Thank You! SWEET!!
Yessir...this car has put me in my place a few times. I dont have a mechanic that I trust enough to leave it with, and I want to learn as I go anyway. Once again, this site has saved me more grief and money. I'll still drive around lost for three hours before I ask for directions, I think that came stock with the parts I was born with. ;)
