your probably on a budget so i would just buy some thicker primer, fill it as much as possible, if you get runs just sand them down then paint. On another note how deep are the pitts because rims aren't that thick, safety first.

As long as the pits aren't too deep ... wire-wheel them (buy wire-wheels that go on a drill), sand them by hand (lots of elbow grease), wipe the rims down good (I used thinners) after sanding, use a good "rust" primer, and a couple coats of Duplicolour Hi-build Fleet Coating, semi gloss black, spray paint.

I also took off all the tire weights, and took out the old valve stems for ease of refinishing the rims (replaced with new ones when I got my tires put back on, and balanced).

Is the pitting just where the tire bead sits. If so after you do your BEST on sanding use "bead sealer" on the tire bead when you re-install the tires!!!! worst case, you can put tubes in them!!!

Buy some JB weld. Mix it up and while wearing a latex glove fill the holes and get it as smooth as possible. It's hard to sand so you want to get it really smooth while it's still wet. Prime and paint and you'll be golden.
