In another thread I was mentioning about how I enjoyed the part of my job that involves looking up parts in parts catalogues. In over 35 years I have never gotten tired of doing that.
That got me thinking. What do other people do for a living that they really enjoy, that they can hardly believe they get paid to do it?
Let's please keep this thread positive. Let's hear about the part of your daily job you love, not the part you hate!

The part I love about my job is that I am slated to retire from it in 6 years and 9 months. I love it!

Carl, I used to do the same thing as you back in the late 60's to 80's loved it, then became parts manager, loved that too, untill dealer expanded & the headaches that came with it. Finnaly left & got my A lic. & hit the road in 84, loved that for yrs. but all the regulations killed the fun of that, taught for a couple of yrs [tractor trailer] then "packed" it in. Best job in the world is being RETIRED!!! Busyer now than when I worked, couldn't fit the time in to have a job now!!!!!

The auto industry is in my blood. I like being in on the latest offerings from the manufacturer. Toyota is now selling the Scion brand in Canada and it's been interesting to be part of the roll out. I even got my photo taken with the "Scion Girl"! ;) I must be doing something right as I won two awards last year. One from the dealership for being the top Service Consultant (sales and customer satisfaction) and another from Toyota Canada for achieving Top Customer Satisfaction out of all Service Consultants in our peer group (which includes Toronto and all SW Ontario Toyota dealers). Although the hours are long (10 hour days) and it's often stressful, they do pay me very well. My boss said this to me a while back "I had no idea the income potential in this business when I started" and he's right. It's not uncommon for someone to start at the ground floor, say in the wash bay and work his way up to a Sales or General Manager in this business. I've done the service manager bit in the past and I'm currently happy to stay in my current position. I have been approached by two other companies so far this year so who knows what the future holds!
the light at the end of the tunnel. 2 months, 26 days to retire. Sprinkler Fitter for 39 years & one week. I have been on service most of that time and been in hundreds of plants & companys. Got to watch cars & trucks beening built. Been in a lot of place the public never gets to see. July first my first pension cheque comes. July 4th I start my new job as inspector. 3 days off between jobs. 55 is too young to hang it up
I've been in farm construction for 36 years. Started out at labourer, now I own the business and I love it. I like meeting my clients, love the work, seeing what gets done in a day, like being up on roofs, pay is very good too. Also no major injuries in all those years, I'm thankful.
Well there aren't many perfect jobs and I am sure not going to say I've got one but I do enjoy the feeling of accomplishment everytime we are able to complete a project. We show up on a piece of dirt or rock and when we leave people are moving in and I tell you there is lots that happens in between. I've made so many life time friends by building for them and bouncing ideas back and forth with them as we go along and it has been very rewarding. I also like the freedom with the job of being able to take lots of time off. When the kids were younger many years I would take most of the summer off to be at the lake with them and hardly ever missed making it a long weekend so I could watch them play in a tournament someplace. I hope I never have to retire because I enjoy what I do but I just try to work less and take more time off. I guess I would sum it up with the sense of fulfillment, the people I get to work with, and the freedom. I thank God everyday for the health and strength to be able to keep working.
Getting really neat Detroit Diesel powered stuff, fixing it, then drivin' to Dunbow Rd and back to 114 Ave here in Calogary. Enough for "someone" to see me. I get paid to have fun that's for sure!
My job now is retirement. Do it went I want to. I do miss the job I left 7yrs ago though, mostly the people I worked with. 34 ys with CNR, started as car checker and retired as Locomotive engineer.
I get paid to keep the mine and mill running... I love brain storming solutions and fixing challenging problems with what we have on hand....
I'm an Instrumentation Tech. in a Northern mine. fly in camp ,,so sometimes,, you have to be resourceful. I'm responsible for keeping the Process Controls running tip top, remote loaders and scoops, drilling machines...etc.. I run a crew of 9 tradesman now...a lot busier than I used to be...
People ask if I do what Homer Simpson does in the plant ?? I FIX the stuff he breaks I answer..
( and the pay is OK too... )
