This is a live camera setup on the north end of Morris Manitoba. This is the bridge over the Morris river about 1/2 mile west of where it meets the famous Red River. As the cars drive away from the camera, they are heading straight for our house. If they didn't have to go around the curve at the top of the screen and kept going straight north, they'd hit our living room in 3 miles!
Wow! The river is already pretty high! Does the bridge eventually get flooded? Isn't there a way they could build some sort of dam so that this doesn't happen? Maybe we'll see you drive over the bridge. You should do a big smoky burnout on it with the new TA!
Looks like it's only 4 to 5 feet until that water covers the bridge.
I bookmarked the site. Hope everything turns out more than okay for you Carl ... I remember the last time ... all the best!

What time will you be doing the burnout on the bridge? Need to know so I can tune in! :)
Hahaha, we think alike!!!
I am thinking mama's new Trans Am will have to go visit the camera!!!
To put it in perspective, see the railings along the side of the bridge? In 1997, (our record flood) you could boat right over top of those railings. They were approximately 3 feet under. 2009 was 14 inches less than 1997, so almost 2 feet over the railings.

Approximately 2-3 days after the bridge has water on it, we usually lose our road access here.
Really no way to block the water here. What you can't see in the picture is the dike around town. It's pretty much right underneath the camera.

That camera shot is great. I can't believe how huge the Morris River is right now. It is normally about 15 to 20 feet wide is it not? And about 20 feet below that bridge? Thanks for sharing with us!

Yes, it's filling pretty good. I think it is all of 25 feet to the river bottom.
When you don't see ice against the west (left) side of the bridge any more, then you know the Red River is starting to back up into the Morris River. Once that happens, I likely have a couple more days of road access before the provincial road washes out about 1/2 mile from home. The Morris river floods overland and our property value goes up because of it being lakefront.

Just a guess-timate ... How long will it be until the waters appear on your property Carl? (I'm not wishing for it to happen)
I've was thinking about you in the past weeks, all the "animal action" the flood brings. I live-trapped 5 skunks & 3 cats (catch & release) out from under my in-laws porch. The poor inlaws are getting stunk-out!

We have the coulee that runs about 150' behind our house. My wife called at 10 and said it looks like it's starting to rise. At 7:00 I checked it and it was still flowing slightly toward the river. I am guessing if it's not actually rising yet, it will start backing up within a day or two.
If you have seen a shot of our house, it was built high. We put down about a foot of gravel, then poured the floor (slab on piers) then poured full 8 foot walls so our main floor ends up being very close to 10' above natural ground level. The coulee will have to rise about 13' to get to that height, which I really don't think will be an issue. However, it will likely rise 6-7' in the next week or so.

The fields are saturated with water around here, the La Salle river is very high behind my house and hasn't crested yet ? My half basement is wet and the sump pump is now going every 2 minutes for a week...
Hang in there guys, and don't do anything unsafe! Sad to hear about the guy that was driving through the water, off the road and drowned!
I live a couple hundred feet from the Red downtown, and was walking the dog along it when the ice brokeup... it's been going up a down maybe 18", and now down again since they opened the floodway...hopefully the ice jams clear up to the lake soon!
