It just sits in there and the weight holds it Jonathon.

Just put it back in. Is the shock off? When they are off, there is more bounce and the spring can extend right to the end of  travel and fall out.

there is a small cup that bolts through the center of the spring, holds the spring to the lwr trailing arm

the small cup does not grip it it's more of just a guide for the spring so it does not fall out right?

your small cup is rusted you need to replace it on each side. that is what holds the spring to the control arm.
