is this flat black... or satin?

Had some powder coating done last week... the color was supposed to be a satin finish.. but it looks really flat to me.

you can see from the original color of the base that there is a huge difference..

looking to silk screen on the air cleaner part number etc.. anyone have suggestions?

Yes, that sure does look to be flat black, not satin.

I can't help any with your screening question, sorry.

That is going to be a bugger to screen print if you are not set up to do it.

I was going to suggest using some vinyl masking and giving it a VERY light coat of paint. However, looking at how small that copy is, that will be an extreme PITA.

Okay... getting back to the screen printing... You will need to do a photo stencil on this. You will have to provide a screen maker with a film positive of the printing. You will have to fab a screen frame to match the curvature of air cleaner to supply the screen maker. You will need a small squeegee. You will need some while screen printing enamel.

When you screen print this, you will need the screen clamped into place and have enough offset from the surface to avoid it smudging. This would be a tricky print job for an experienced printer. For a novice... Well, you might want to reconsider. Another thing to consider is the surface texture. The powder coating would have to be perfectly smooth to make a good print. Any imperfections or pebbliness (Look... a new word!) will yield a poor looking print.

This will not be an inexpensive endeavor. If you were producing hundreds of these at a time it would be worth the investment. For a one off project I would have a hard time justifying the expense. I have been screen printing stuff for a long time and I would pass on this project if someone brought it to me.

What about just getting a white letter decal printed on clear ( or black) and applying it?

I know, not original but lots cheaper and it would look pretty nice.

I bet you could sell some too...

I would love to have some of these decals made too.  And others on here i know do too.

Maybe we should start a new thread about this topic.  Maybe someone can get a large volume printed.

I have excellent examples of originals on my 64s.

GM canada used this same decal on all 1963 to 1966 GM v8 cars.

But only in canada eh.

If that's the case, then I guess I'm in the market for one too.

New thread?

sure.. in the Lounge? I have the art work on disc for the valve cover decals I had done too.. I could get some more of them printed off.
Not sure who is around in this part of the country.. but.. I'll do some digging this week. It's nice not working.. LOL

a clear decal with the lettering is a good idea.. easier and if it stinks... off it comes..

I would have them printed on a matte finish vinyl. Otherwise the gloss will stand out mightily.

Good idea with the print thing. I can get those done for you guys.

Bruce, do you cut decals too?

I see now that StriperSS does, hadn't thought of that but now it looks to me like you do to?

I cut decals. I print decals. I hand letter. I do gold leaf... There isn't much in the sign world that I can not do.

I only wish I could fix cars as well as i make signs. LOL!
