Car show entry fees

Think we may have discussed this somewhere else, but I was going thru Old Autos & noticed some of the shows are getting "Expensive" anywhere from $20 to 40 bucks for a SHOW??? Most are still in the $5 to $10 range but anything over that I'm not going!!! We have the cars, & without the cars theres "NO SHOW" Spectators "Free"- vehicles $$$ doesn't sound right to me!!!

I have to agree with you Pete, I always found it odd that you pay to park you car, hang around all day at some roasting parking lot, eat some lousy hot dog and listen to a crappy DJ playing the same 50's music even though 80 % of the cars aren't from the 50's, pay another $10 for 50/50 tickets and if you are lucky you win a bottle of armorall.

Ray, just think, that "free' bottle of Armorall, just cost you between $20 & $25 [not including GAS] & "Crappy Tire has it on sale for $ 4.95!!!!! & if your lucks like like mine you didn't win the 50/50 either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It just hit me. If you want to go to these shows just drive your old car and park it with the spectators, encourage everyone to do that and the show will be in the spectators parking lot wink

Yea the 50 music thing gets to me after a few hours. Went to the GM powered show at the ST Kitts engine plant last year and they were playing 60, 70 & 80 music. It was a welcome change.

I totally agree,  we are providing the entertainment, and the spectators get in for free

Ass backwards to me.

Atleast provide the exibitors with something in return, such as free stuff or free food.  that is how they do it at american car shows.

ONe that i go to in hte states costs 20 bucks for the weekend.  You get 3 meals for you and a passenger( thats 6 in total)  t-shirts,  free pop,  coupons for around the town, great prize draws where each entry has a guaranteed win, etc, etc.  for your 20 dollars, you get about 100 in return.

thats the way to run a show

Lots of the shows out here are $20 or $30 with some of them throwing in a t shirt. A lot of them connect with charities like kid's stuff at the hospital so I don't have any problem with that. I waste money in alot worse places than that. The problem I do have is that spectators aren't at least given the option to throw in a looney or a twooney and aid the cause a whole lot more. Lots of times there is 5 to 10 thousand people there and I think it would be easier to get an average dollar or two from each of them and then if you want let the car guys off. They will probably spend their money someplace there anyhow.

Out of principle that's why I haven't shown my car in a long time... there are a few here that the proceeds go to buy a powered wheelchair or something, and there's a spectator fee as well... that I can support... but I cant justify paying money to sit all day, i get stir crazy!! I can't believe i lasted for years when I was 16-20 through many shows listening to that music!! I think the guys that bring the cars should get in for free, its our money, blood, sweat and tears people come to see!!

My car club show is $8.00 / preregistered and $15.00 / day of show for cars (driver and one passenger admission). It is $5.00 for each spectator.

I agree about the music. At least the guy who does our music has a pretty decent mix.

OUR LOCAL A&W HOLDS A SHOW AND SHINE EVERY WEEK IN THE SUMMER. IT'S FREE, AND THE DRIVER GETS A FREE TEEN BURGER! THAT'S HOW IT SHOULD BE. SEEMS SILLY TO ME AS WELL TO PAY TO SHOW YOUR CAR. SPECTATORS SHOULD BE THE ONES PAYING. CHARITY EVENTS ARE DIFFERENT, I DON'T MIND PAYING A FEE FOR A GOOD CAUSE.

I only started showing last season so I'm a newbie. I went to a few, paid $20 or less to enter them. I left with a bucket of cleaning supplies (probably $50 worth at Canadian Tire) from everyone of them. I also got several hats, T-shirts, a subscription to Canadian Hotrods, weekend stay at Days Inn, wall plaques, calendars, pens, a nice fender protector, fridge magnets and all kinds of little things. Not only do I enjoy talking about my cars, I love to look at the others and shoot the breeze with the owners. It does seem backwards with the payment scheme, but it actually pays me in the end. I'll likely never buy cleaning supplies again. I have a huge supply just from 1 season of Mothers products. I cant wait to get at it again. Maybe it will get old fast, but for now, I am loving the shows and meets. If you think 50's music gets annoying after a while, wait til they get a load of me playing my saxophone on the back of my firetruck! I'll have a jar for money, but I dont take requests, and you have to pay to make it stop ;) . The truck is now sporting a bbq, fridge, picnic table and sound system. It should break up the long hot afternoons with a poker game and some brewskies. I am looking at installing a brass pole for kicks, but so far most of the women at smalltime NB car shows look better sitting in their chairs with their blue hair and knitting needles going full tilt. Sorry ladies, but you wouldnt want to see me shakin it on the pole either. Bring on summer!

Have made it a rule not to pay to show any of our cars. ( Yes, I have parked in the public spots and walked freely around the display cars ). Call me cheap or whatever but its a matter of principle.
Have driven many miles to a free show on a day when there was another pay-to-go show just a mile down the street.

It's really an individual decision. I've made mine.

10 bucks is my limit as long as it's going to a charity. I like the waterdown show at the end of may ,$6 for 2 days and spectaters also $6. Maybe thats why cruise nights are so popular. I also pay $45 us to go to goodguys shows but columbus gets 6-7 thousand cars and we make a 5 day trip out of it.

I have been to some really big multi-day shows. Personally, I find it overwhelming. There are just too many cars to see.

Frankly, all late sixties to eighties Corvettes start to look the same to me. Camaros, while I can appreciate certain models, for the most part don't do much for me, either.I do like older Pontiacs and Chevrolets and the oddball stuff.

On the other hand, I had a guy walk up to me last year after buying the Astre and saying to me, Why the f*@# did you ever want to buy THAT?"... I said to him, "For the same reason you bought your car... "Cuz I like it. A lot."

I used to go to a lot cruise nights in New York. My wife and I brought out the PT Cruiser (with the custom leaf and pinstriping custom paint) and set up chairs and sat with our Chinese cresteed dog. Great fun. Lots of coffee and donuts.

I think everyone made some good points in this thread.

This is the number one reason why I don't like cruise night or all day shows. I bring my car for enjoyment not to be criticized. Imagine what I have heard over the years driving a 73 LeMans. It's not nice and it's not respectful. If they don't say it to your face they think it or mutter to their buddy as they walk on past.

What are your plans for the car, when do you plan on finishing it, they never came with those valve covers, it's not a real GOAT, should have 15" wheels, too bad it doesn't have a console, that hose should have two white stripes on it, why did you put Chevy engine in it, car needs a paint job........best one yet was the GTO Judge owner who came back and moved his car once I parked beside him and said to me your POS has no place beside a real GTO. no

disbelief THESE PEOPLE ARE THE REASON I DON'T ATTEND MANY SHOWS ANYMORE, I ALWAYS SEEM TO GET STUCK WANDERING AROUND BEHIND THESE GUYS...AND THERE IS ALOT OF THEM. VERY VERY SAD PEOPLE.cry

I MYSELF ENJOY SEEING THINGS LIKE A RUSTY NOVA WITH A OLDS 455 THAT SOME YOUNG GUY OR GAL PUT TOGETHER (THAT'S WHAT HOT RODDING IS!) WITH WHAT HE/SHE HAD, COULD GET, OR COULD AFFORD. TO HEAR PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM DOES NOT DO THE HOBBY ANY GOOD. MOST YOUNG PEOPLE CAN'T AFFORD A FULL RESTO AND MAKE DUE WITH WHAT THEY CAN, JUST TO GET BASHED AND LOSE INTEREST BECAUSE OF IGNORANT KNOW IT ALLS. IS IT ANY WUNDER OUR HOBBY IS DYING?hmm

Yeah it's annoying to have people pick apart your car. Mines no where nere perfect and way modified. But for every jerk off that critisizes it there usually 10 who love it so it works out. My favorite is all the guys who "used to own one" I have my car at work right now so i can work on it between paying jobs(due to never ending winter) Had a customer in the shop looking at it the other day. "He said he had a 66 and it was exactlly the same color. My color is off a 2006 Lexus. LOL

I hear ya on that, I had one trucker call me on CB on the way thru the states, asked what yr. it was, I told him 64 & he says My dad had on "just like that", only it was a 66 & a 4 dr. & blue!!!!  I tried not to laugh!!! I prefer the cruise in format, no fee, no time when & when not you can leave & no judging, everone just seems to have a good time. Lions Club is having there 3 rd annual show here in Blackstock in May, for $5.oo it's a good show, had around 100 cars last yr. & it goes to a good cause, I'm not a Lion just thought I'd pass that one on!!!!   Pete

Hey Paulish......I couldn't help but chuckle when I read the first line of this post, lol. All a person has to do is look right on this site at "ANY", lol, of the cars for sale ads if you want to hear people picking apart a car, lol............too funny. .....perhaps people don't realize that's what they are doing ,when they do it..........???
