RE: Gas Prices... Time for a 4 cyl driver.

When I first started working as a gas jockey (remember them, lol), gas was 49.9 cents per gallon and was just in the middle of moving up to 51.9 cents that week. A Volkswagen bug had to run itself almost empty to be able to get the $4.16 (8 gallons) of gas necessary so that you could get the free glass of the week with your fill-up.....
...... in 1972.

Wow, we could be twins! I started at 48.9 and yes, lots of guys ran as low as they could go because they wanted all the glasses and dishes etc that Texaco was giving away.

I had a customer with a Cougar who NEVER filled up, ALWAYS 5 dollars worth. Funny how that sticks in a guys head.

I've found when they started putting them in it made all the difference.

At least the 1980 cars had Lock-up converters!.
They're no OD but sure help a lot compared to the old constant-slip converters!.

My daily driver's a 4-banger S'box, far from a luxury vehicle but dependable and cheap to run!.
Even w/ today's gas prices the wife and I just did a weekend trip to Collingwood and back to Peterboro'.. Including a bunch o' running around while there we did a total of 625 Km. for a whopping $43.00 in gas so about 50 Mpg!.

With two adults and two teenagers driving we have four licenced daily use vehicles in the driveway including two 4-banger S'box cars, one V6 Minivan and one V6 pickup..
Both V6 vehicles suck on gas no matter if in town or on the hiway so on long runs unless we need the truck or the seating space o' the minivan we always take one of the 4-banger S'Boxes!.

Can someone tell me how much regular gas was in 1994 ?

I recall 0.39/liter in 1984

It seemed to float 0.59 and 0.69 in the 1990's but I have a co-worker telling me it was 0.46 in 1994 he might be right but I m thinking it was a little higher

When I left Labrador in Oct '97 it was 0.74 litre. When I got to Saskatchewan, it was 0.55 litre. Not sure in '94 though.......

I can remember selling it for 46.9 or maybe 49.9 when we took over our service station in 93' here in Manitoba, I'm sure it was a while before it topped 50 here.

I remember that I had a set of those dishes and glasses for 8 people.

I wonder what happened to them??

Well get ready for another gas hike.

Oil just went to $112.00 a barrel today. disbelief
