RE: serial number tag question

are you concerned that the VIN's themselves don't seem right, or that fonts are different?

If just that the fonts are different, and one says "G.M. CANADA D.D." and the other says "G.M. of CANADA", keep in mind GM used various suppliers for many of their parts.   GM wasn't concerned about us 40 years later picking their cars apart.  I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

D.D. 'dominion' I believe that cars for export where badged with the D.D. at that time?

I don't have a pic of my tag handy....it should be in the registry ,, I'll look ...

...ours simply says Style-Body-Paint-Trim..nothing else..it has no GM of Canada identification of any sort. Maybe it's not a Pontiac at all but some sort of alien clone...!! All the tag numbers/letters match up to our GM Historical documentation but it's kind of odd that it has no GM ID at all..anyone have any thoughts..??

i think it means delivery date?

I BELIEVE THAT IS CORRECT. I HAVE ASKED ABOUT THE D.D. BEFORE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALER WAS SUPPOSED TO STAMP THE DELIVERY DATE ON THE TAG WHEN THE CAR WAS SOLD.

i believe he is talking about the vin tag on the door jam, not the trim tag on the cowl.

I also have a tag like that , I scrapped a custom sport 20 years ago and saved everything but the shell and frame. it had a D.D. as noted in previous post.

Yes DD is for Delivery Date and dealers were to stamp the date in the open area but seldom did..
DD tags are common to US tags of the period also GM used the open area in later years for factory stampings of special build #'s including Camaro pace cars etc..
Obviously any dealer stampings would be hammered in from the exterior in random fashion using whatever stamps were at hand but factory stampings protruding and consistant w/ other tag #'s being they were stamped from the back side before tag attached..
