RE: Barn Find, sorta . . .

You guy's obviously don't listen to Sammy Hagar, I know I can't drive 55 !!!! I'll pay the price at the pump just to cruise in something that rotates my crank. I already have the blown 572 for my 66 Acadian Canso SD so look out if you see me pullin into the pumps cause I'll be runnin on " E ".

If you can drop the 100 beans on a tank of gas for an afternoon of touring,.. more power to-ya man!   Not too many out this way are still running down the street with a 5-MPG modified big block.  Have fun! So long as you're drive'n it!  Although I'm more inclined to appreciate the factory stock look and detailed engines,.. I can still appreciate a nice puff of tire smoke!

So,,...smoke-em if you got'em!

I DO listen to Sammy Hagar on VINYL (IEATZ28),but didn't he end up in JAIL on the "I can't drive 55" vid?

Around here,a SMOKY BURNOUT is called "stunting" & the Feds have the authority to seize your car if they choose.

ALSO,same deal if they clock you over the speed limit by 25mph.

Around the SAME year of our favorite Pontiacs (1964) wasn't Bob Dylan recording "The Times They Are A-changin"?

In the past seven summers,I've put over 15 K (that's MILES,NOT metric CRAP) on my 64 Parisienne conv't & I still have money to buy shoes & food!

MY b*lls are big enough to drive a 283 2bbl. with a quiet stock SINGLE exhaust & it's a BLAST! biggrin   (all you hear is the Powerglide whine)

The slower you drive it,the more FUN it is.

WHITEWALLS & SPINNERS ROCK!

Actually, I'm just feedin you guy's a bunch of B.S. if you didn't catch on to that fact right away you just don't know me yet.....biggrin.  The point I was trying to make is that everyone has a different personality and when you go to a show & shine the cars aren't all the same. Each car say's something different, whether it be the fuzzy dice, air bags, exact resto, the BIG BLOCK or the $100,000.00 show car that the owner didn't twist a wrench on. My 66 Acadian was born with a small block and it will stay that way. We're more interested in cruising around the country and getting to know some of our fellow Poncho friends. Anyway, pariscruiser64 I look forward to seeing what you do with your new ride, enjoy.....smile

P.S. Around here a smokey burn out is called a forest fire.

Well boys, seems I've started some heated discussion . . .

To each his own, I can appreciate everyones views and opinions, but hopefully everyone will appreciate mine as well.

I came to this forum as I knew there would be a wealth of knowledge here and lord knows I'll be needing as much help as I can get.

I'm still waiting to actually bring the car home, but once I do I'll post some pics of all those details you've all been asking about.

No heated discussions here man. (lots of opinions ,.. but nothing heated).
It's just great to see another car nut join the ranks and start a project on preseving another piece of Canadian car history.  (with the price of resto these days,... it's just great to see the interest is still finding "newbies" and those interested enough to actually drop coin to start AND FINISH a project.
As for preference,.. absolutely ,.. lots of different ideas of cool.  When I was kid,.. my brother bought a used '64 Parisienne.  Then filled the trunk with cement blocks (cuz it was cool to have the front higher and the ass drag'n the ground) Then he put these crazy ass furry monkey balls all the way around the interior ,.. got decked out with a captains hat and went crusing for chics.  That was HIS version of cool.  (Yikes ,.. glad I missed that era!)
Around here ,.. any opinion from anyone is great!    It means there's still enough Pontiac crazies around that enjoy these old bombs.,..and enough guys to ask for help.

You'll be really pleased to know that "almost" every replacement part is now being made for these cars (the ones that are interchangeable with '64 Impala) and many other repro parts like new rug etc.  It's amazing!  And what you can't find "new",.. you can probably find on ebay or kijiji.  And what you can't find anywhere,... you can probably find a good hearted soul and CP member who can probably hook you up with the part you need.

Resorting a car is quite different now than it was even 15 years ago.  With little more than a few mouse clicks,... you can have a part drop shipped right to your door.  I remember the days of searching for moldings and other odds and ends in mosquito infested swamp yard auto wreckers.  Then spending an afternoon in sweltering heat,.. laying on your back in the swamp,.. trying to remove parts with rusted bolts and screws.  Then when you finally did get the part off,... you'd go over to the owner,.. who'd smile at you with green teeth ,....and said,.."oh those are rare parts,.. I'm gonna need at least $XXX.00 for those parts."  And you'd pay though the nose for "borderline quality" used parts.  Now the internet provides much faster and more pleasant parts shopping experiences.

Another major bonus is accessibility to vast amounts of knowledge (brought to you by the fanatics and friends at CP

Only downside to restoring these days ,.. is the cost of bodywork,.. if you can't do it yourself.  That has literally skyrocketed in the past 20 years. If you want even a resonable job,.. very minimal rust and basic paint ,... it's violently expensive.  I know many a guy who has given up on a car that was in very restorable shape,.. just because he found out that the price of bodywork was $10-$15K and up.  So if you intend on doing some bodywork which you can't do yourself ,.. you may want to make friends with someone at your local shop   Another alternative is doing the "rat rod" thing; 2 cases of flat black spray paint=$200.00 and a 24 of beer and it's done. Although I'm not a fan of the flat black thing at all ,.. others are doing it and making due with what they've got to get their car on the road.

There's some info for you.  Great to know another Canadian Pontiac is making it's way back to the pavement!

Cheers!

I just started work on my 72, changing it from a 2wd longbox to a 4x4 shortbox.
