1964 Nova SS 327 block, bored as a 283, pink paint, L-79 ??

Plans have changed, 63 Nova SS is gone.  I will be building a 67 2dr sedan as a sleeper/NHRA stock class, using another 327 block so this one is not needed.  Part # is 3700721.

This is an original 327 SBC casting removed from a 1964 Nova SS 4 spd car.  The block is marked with pink for High Performance, it has a recessed oil filter area used in the Chevy II, Nova and Acadian chassis only.  It also has a flat area adjunct to the oil filter recess that is threaded for the ball stud necessary to mount the clutch cross shaft between the block and the inner sub-frame rail.

The block has just been hot tanked and magnafluxed and is clear of any flaws.

I recently saw an -79 clone car that was listed for sale with this block being used to build the L-79.  I do not know if this block was in fact one of the blocks used to build L-79's in 1966.  I do know this motor was used in 1965-67 high performance applications in Chevy II and Nova's with a manual trans.

This block was also used as an 283 application in 1964 Nova SS cars with a manual trans.  Since this option was only available in the 2nd half of the 1964 model year and only 15% of these 64 V-8 Nova SS cars were manual trans, that makes this a very, very rare block.

I beleive this is the same block Carl S has in his car. Bored to 327. Neet block can be a 283 or 327. You got a price in mind.

Yea, with the recessed oil filter it really makes a nice manual trans application allowing more room for clutch linkage and exhaust.

Carl suggested a sonic test as it would require a .125 over bore to get to 327.  I haven't found anyone to do that yet.  So far I have only paid $65 for the degrease and magnaflux.

I'm trying to do some research to see what an average price might be and right now I just don't know.  I bought it as part of a complete engine assembly, long block, along with the M-20, posi rear and everything to complete the drivetrain so it is hard for me to value just the block.

I will try to post a price asap and pm you when I do.

thanks, Norm

No worries, I do not have a Nova or Acadian but I would think there would be insterest from the Acadian crowd.  I think the block should be 3790721 not 3700721.

Well, I'm a little surprised.  This block was at the machine shop being hot tanked and magnafluxed.  I thought I wrote the casting number down as 370721.  Here are a couple pictures I took today after bringing it home and putting it back on the stand.  It is wet from WD-40.

I know for a fact the block came from a 64 Nova SS V-8, 4spd, 2bbl.  I also know the pink paint is V-8 engine plant code for High Performance.

GOOD NEWS !!  I FINALLY LOOKED AT THE OTHER END OF THE BLOCK AND FOUND THE PART #3790721.  THE ENGINE PAD IS FO927CF and I belive the date code is    H-20.
