Park Lights only on?

I have a question about park lights on '60's cars.Do they only work in the park postion and go out when the headlights come on? Is it possible to rectify this?Is it the way the cars are wired or in the switch? Just curious

On a 57 Chevy I had, the previous owner crossed a couple wires so the park lights also came on with the headlights.  Everything else worked normally.

Did the same thing on 66 Grande Parisienne's. I was so madly in love with those gorgeous park lamps in the grille on the 66's I had to do it...
