Go to CTC (Barrie) and buy a engine stand

Locate a 250 6 cylinder engine

Degrease it

Paint it chevy orange and slid into corner    Now you are done!!!     Drive the v8 until you die and let the next guy install the 6

good idea and i would probably do that..oh wait theres just one thing missing, the 250 enginebiggrin LOL you do bring up something to think about in regards to just driving the car and storing the 250. But on the other hand I have always been a purist in everything i collect and orignality is king to me.

I don't have any 250's lying around, anytime I got a car with one in it, I wrapped a chain around it and used it as a boat anchor.

But, I did recently read a post from a member on Steve's Nova site that wanted to get rid of his power steering on a 1st or 2nd gen car.  He was requesting information on what parts to replace when trashing his P.S.  I don't remember the exact answer but I know it was very simple as the P.S. unit is made up of a slave cylinder and control valve mounted on the steering linkage, not connected to the steering box.  It also has external pump mounted on the block and connected to the cylinder on the linkage.  I know they are not cheap but all these parts are available through Chevy2only.com

If your not familiar with steve's, I'm sure someone else on this site is a member.  Also, I do believe most of the componets of the P.S. are reproduced now, try NNN or Classic Industries.

I'm in BC so it would be 400 ish to ship. That's what it cost me to ship a small block. To bad your not closer.

I am not understanding your comment about no external pump mounted on the block. These systems use a traditional steering pump, or do I not catch what you are saying.

The early 6cyl PS pump bracketry and pulleys are hard to come by.

The 60s ones all have nice clean looking brackets,  the 70s ones are huge clunky ugly things.

I may have some pics and maybe the brackets to spare, give me a few days to check

Dave, are the Nova and Beaumont the same setup? I had it in my head the Nova pump is in a different place but that could easily be wrong.

That setup is a bit different Ian,  Heavier clunky lower bracket, and a bit different beause of the air pump.

Carl,  i think most of the pump brackets would be the same, box and hoses are obviously different tho

I corrected my statement.  I was trying to make the point that the early P.S. was not controled by the steering box.

I have a ps pump that looks like that. Was in the trunk of my 63 Bonneville and I don't know if it's the same or not or if it needs a rebuild or not. It looks good, all black & shiney & all! It's yours if you want it.
