Pontiac 455 dipstick tube installation

IMG_1758.JPGIMG_1760.JPGIMG_1759.JPGAfter trying to install my "Made in Taiwan" dipstick tube in my 455 and ending up destroying it by grinding away chrome so it would fit in the block, pounding the heck out of it ... It just wouldn't fit ! I order an OER (original equipment replacement) at Midlife Motors in CO USA on Ebay. It is made of real steel just like factory and cheap too ! Under $10. I installed it in no time with a hammer, stud and a punch, it fitted like a charm with my home made tool (old rocker arm stud grinded on one side so it would fit all the way beside the main saddle). The late 1974 to 76 Pontiac 455 came with a 2 part dipstick tubes and the inside one bolts on the main cap as pictured, alot of poeple forget to install the inside one and end up breaking their dipstick ending up damaging the motor or in the bottom of the pan.

Better day for me today and I can resume building up my engine...

Glad it worked out for you. A good comparison of Good old U.S of A verses crap.
