I am quite sure you will have to pull the heater box out from inside the car. Does it have factory air?

You will have to do both on a car without factory AC.
The nuts that hold the under dash inner cover on are at the firewall under the hood. You will have to remove the right inner fender to access all of them.
If you have factory AC you have to remove the AC box under the hood. The inner fender needs to come out to do this as well.

I was just thinking of telling him how much more work it will be if it has air! Always fun under a dash with a/c...

It's not complicated, you can do it. Just allow plenty of time, one bolt at a time.
