Parts Intergangeability beween USA and Canadian

Howdy folks,

I'm still restoring my '57 Pontiac.  I've been looking for chassis parts and chrome and fuel tank and after reading this forum, I'm wondering how I can find out if a gas tank (or other such items) from a US model will fit my Pathfinder?

There are a lot more parts available in the US than here.

Same for the chrome.  If the US Pontiac is longer than the CDN model, how do I find out what interchanges and what doesn't?

You will likely get a more detailed answer from some 57 experts here but as far as the chassis goes, I believe it is 100% Chevrolet. Picture the body off the frame and the frame is 57 Chevy.

I've seen discussions on here regarding sheet metal and I believe the comment was no interchange to speak of. Maybe doors, at best.

I am going to have to look in my archives for photos of two '57's I shot at a show a few years back, one a Laurentian the other a Star Chief.

Quarter panels longer on US car so ditto on bright work, The front fenders are different as well, door to wheel wheel opening longer by a few inches on US cars. Of course engines are Canadian Pontiac vs. Us Pontiac as well.

You can tell a US car from 20 feet when you see them at shows, to me the rear quarters and deck are way out of proportion but of cousre after 54 years I am used to looking at Canadin Pontiacs.

I think you'll find the frame is different, suspension is "totally" different, as well rear end [ same as Olds] & not much on the body parts swap out either!!!!

Gas tank is the same as a 57 Chevy. You 'might' even be able to get a new one from Canadian Tire. If not, Jim at Old Car Centre in Langley BC will have what you need.

Chassis is same as Chevrolet - gas tank, fuel lines, suspension, everything except bumper brackets which are unique. U.S. Pontiac is totally different.

Most of the body (fenders, hood, trim) is unique, different from Chevy and U.S. Pontiac. Doors and glass are same as Chevy. Trunk lid has hole for latch in different place, otherwise same as Chevy.
