i had a 76 astre back about 85 to89 paid 150.00 for it, bought it from the original owner who had bills for every knickel he had ever spent on it all dealer serviced. he had the engine replaced under warrenty a couple years after he bought it so when i got it all the bugs had been worked out, i beat the crap out of that car, drove it everywhere including two trips from ontario to nova scotia.i had gathered all the parts from a v8 monza to drop a small block in the car but on the second trip to ns 4 or 5 of us were in it blasting around the back roads outside bridgewater and i hit a rail crossing i forgot about at 70 mph, bottomed out and snapped the frame off behind the left front wheel, damn! i drove it back to ontario like that and never shut it off between N.B. and ONT. because the starter bolts and bell housing bolts worked loose and the starter was pretty much hanging off the car. i made it all the way home with the car and parked it in the underground, sold it soon after for 300.00 to some guy that wanted the motor out of it. i see people ripping on the h bodys all the time and agree some had oil burning problems but i can say with all honesty i have seen some that have endured punishment that would put any camaro ,nova, gto or olds to shame and come back for more! by the way the astre i had back then was the same color as the one shown in this thread for sale and was a notchback as well, seeing it brought back a bunch of memories.
I used to own a '73 Vega Hatchback ... ran the crap out of it ... I wouldn't pay 3,500.00 for this car.
Haaaa! Reality rears its ugly head at the Astre/Vega love in...
