I know they made it, my step dad owns one and it is about 7 miles from my house. What do you need to verify it? Here is the only pic i have for right now, my dad sent it to me earlier via cell phone.

Wecome here tippsy20. As stated, it has always been thought that GM never made such a car. Also as stated, it is most important for you to get GM Canada Vintage documentation for this car. If it is truly an SD (as proven by those documents) it would likely be the only one like it.

The numbers off the firewall tag will help but GM of Canada can prove for sure that it's genuine. I suspect I'm not the only one here anxious to see if this car really is a genuine 69 SD convertible!

This looks like a car that was built by one of the members on here (Stan AKA:1966 SD). He sold the car in the USA so it has to be the same car. Ken is correct in saying that GM did not build any.
I called Stan and told him to check out this post. He will be able to share more information about the car.

Can you get some more pictures and information? It would be nice to add it to the registry.

I went with my dad when he bought this car...I don't remember all the details but I think my dad first saw the car at the Super Chevy Show, but the car had already been sold to a guy from Missouri. My stepdad got a hold of the guy that bought it and my dad bought it from him. I think that is how the story went, it has been a while ago. I can ask my dad exactly and he will know.

As posted above there has never been a proven SD convert. yet. Those that have claimed were customs. The SD was based on the Deluxe series only and they did not make a deluxe convert.  Also interesting note is that were not available with buckets and consule. Bench seat only. Some have claimed they was was a GM employee optioned out convert with a 396. Possible but not proven with documentation. This would not make it an Sd but a Custom with a big block. But also note that if yours is a 73667 V8 Custom would be 1 of 488 and if a 73567 six cylinder custom would be 1 of 40. Low production no mater what.

Am I right in remembering that 69 SD cars were all 736 cars with an SD option package?

I thought the only way to tell my 69 Chevelle SS was a real 396 car was the engine option showing on the cowl tag.

All 69 SD cars are 734 VIN with engine option L35 or L34. Only hardtops and 2 door sedans were built with the big block. 73427 or 73437 only.

A 69 Canadian built Chevelle will show the engine option as well but the US built cars do not. If a Chevelle was built in the US and shipped to Canada new you can get the documentation from VVS.

Ok, that was 30 years ago. I couldn't remember more than the fact that it did show the engine on the cowl tag. Thanks Brad.

was the SD convertible simply not available as an order or was the fact that none were never ordered ? If this was the case I suspect the GTO became the convertible choice. How many 69 GTO's convertible were sold in Canada

Default1969 Beaumont SD396 Convertible

I was reading through some of the forums about Beaumonts and I came across this one.

I'm up in Iowa on leave, went over to see a guy I've known for a few years about buying an engine. So after talking for a while he takes me out to a large shop and there sits a 69 SD-396 Beaumont Vert in bright orange, next to a 69 SS 396 /4 speed Chevelle, and a whole bunch of other cool cars from the 60 and 70's. How rare do you think the 69 Beaumont vert is?? What would it be worth? Its all numbers matching, older restore and fairly low mileage. Very solid, seen a little bubbling in the lower front fenders, but the rest of the car is great. He also has a sweet 69 Malibu vert that's in the re-assemble stage. I have pics on my cell phone that I'll download and post soon.

There were no 1969 Beaumont SD396 convertibles built and only about 43 1969 SD396 hardtops. Are you sure it's not a 1968? There were 66 1968 SD396 convertibles built. Either way, I would like to see the pictures.

SEABEES72SS....the car you are talking about is my dads. It is a 1969 Beaumont SD396 Convertible. If you would like me to I can get some pictures of it and post them on here. It is the real deal, I went with my dad to get the car before I had a license and I am 28 now so he has had it for atleast 12 years. The car is Monaco orange and yes he has several other Chevelles to.
