RE: 69 Beaumont Conv. SD396

got some paper work back and I am going to verify the "cowl tag". My dad got a phone call from a guy that worked at GM of Canada and offered him twice as much as he paid, shortly after he got it. My dad said no and the guy knew the vin# exactly what interior was in the car and everything you could possibly want to know about the car...he said he knew it was 1 of 2 but todays results didn't reflect that, so I am going on with the next step. I still believe it is the real deal...too many things don't add up. I will get to the bottom of this. Didn't have time to take any pics. tonight....possibly tomorrow. I am trying to get my dad and grandpa to drag out all the old cars and clean them up to get a picture of all them...you guys will never believe it. I never realized how lucky I was growing up around all these cars until now. My dad gave me my first Chevelle somewhere around the age of 10 or 11...still not done by the way, but it is a 1971 car that came from the South. I got into racing around the age of 15 or 16 and did that for about 10 years, so of course that took all my time. Now I am married with 3 kids and I hope to bring my Chevelle home in the next week or two, so I can finish what I have been trying to do for a while. Just to take a guess about dads cars. Somewhere around a dozen Chevelles and lots of misc. cars, my MOM even has a 69 Chevelle...69 is dads favorite year Chevelle. Grandpa is an Impala nut and he has quite a few of those, I know somewhere in the mix there is an older Berlineta, Cadillacs, and Pontiacs along with a few old trucks. Will see what I can come up with on the Beaumont. thanks for reading everyone!

I guess it's time to add my 2 cents worth. I cloned a 69 SD beaumont convertible back in the early to mid nineties. I didn't pay much attention to the cowl tag back then. I painted it 69 hugger orange with black stripes, black roof, black interior- not deluxe. The stripes were from memory so they are closer to 68 than 69. I had pontiac rally ll's on it. It was a basket case when I got it, so I installed a 66 396 motor, 67 400 turbo trans and the previous owner already swapped disc brake, 10 bolt posi, rear trailing arms and sway bar all off a cutlas donor car.

I took the car to super chevy in Indianapolis and ended up selling it to a guy from Illinois. Before he bought it there was a guy from Iowa who really wanted it but didn't have any cash with him.  The next year I went to Indy I met up with the guy who bought it from me and he told me he resold it to the guy from Iowa.

Sounds like alot of similarities in these two stories. I would say it's a good chance it's my old car. It was only a matter of hours after I sold it that I started to reget it, and all the way home I was pondering where to get another one. I did find another one and it is finally ready for the paint shop this saturday, hugger orange with correct 69 black stripes and black roof.

I`ve got lots of pictures but none on the computer, I`ll work on that.

Maybe more than 2 cents but hope it helped.  Stan

Do the GM documents give the selling dealer? Don't give up trying to prove it. I know we will all tell you GM didn't make an SD convert in 69, but keep on the trail and you never know what may come out of it.

Sounds like this could be your old car 1966 SD. I just talked to dad and it was a guy from Illinois that he bought it from...not Missouri. Sorry I was wrong on the state. Car is still beautiful though. I think we need to get it out and do a few burnouts in it though...dad will too he likes smoke and noise. Not for sure but I would take a guess and say the miles we put on it on the way home is probably more miles than it has had on it ever since. Carl the selling dealer was not documented, but it was in Quebec.

What did you mean by not deluxe..when talking about interior...don't mean to sound like a dumb@ss.....I was told the only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

Real SD cars have deluxe interior, which is rubber floor mat, bench seat and door panels that are different that custom beaumonts, kinda like a 300 deluxe chevlle.

i c, thanks for the info....I am still sure the car will stay in our family for a long time and will be taken care of. If you are ever around Iowa and would like to take a look at it, I am sure my dad won't care. email me @ tippsy20@hotmail.com when you are in the area

Very easy to do this yourself..... Just hit "insert" to every picture after you upload them just before you submit... Very easy!

Another tip:

if you want to display your pics full size, you can upload them to an external site like www.tinypic.com, copy the address given after you upload it, click on the insert image icon (the square with the little tree in it) in the post window, and paste the address for the pic in the window that pops up.

There are probably better ways of doing it, but that's what I do...

This is about as large as I can get it without making it too blurry.

Gorgeous car.Not putting it down by any means but did you like the 68 stripe better than the 69?

The pictures quality isn't that great, I think because they were scanned from 4x6 photos.

The stripe was reproduced at the vinyl cutting shop according to my memory, which recalled 68 rather than 69. It was the early 90's and I didn't have any research material like a computer.

That car ran and drove beautiful and I really enjoyed it, but the lure of 40 cents difference on the dollar made me decide to part with it.

My lastest one will be painted by spring, same color combo only 69 stripes.
