As I did with a couple of my far away purchases, if you want it, just make arangements and go get 'em! They are only far away if you have no intensions of getting it!

There are many of us one here that went the distance and the latest being the '67 Rag out of Indian Head, Sk that went to Ontario!

Boys, if you want, go get!

Agree 100%. Your not going to find them on the next block!!!!  Have heard many comments on here "I;d buy it in a minute"    "IF"    well  67 Poncho's got it right,if you want it go, get it, especially if it's priced right & it's solid, load it on the train, make arrangements with hauler for a back haul, or a "ROAD TRIP" & don't say "IF"

I like it.

For some of us the idea of a road trip is just not practical. I'm not going to pick up a car that's 5000 miles away. If it's mobile, I might ship it. But it would have to be a pretty special car.

Exactly, i can't just take off to go get it and i can't afford to ship it. It's true that i don't WANT it THAT BADLY, just commenting that these really nice cars, this and that 63 wagon pop up out west. At another time i could be in the position that i won't let the special one go, but these are too far away...right now.

I too am one of those people who hesitates to move on a vehicle if it's too far away.

Buying a car without seeing it in person is risky at best.  Unless you have a trusted knowledgable person looking at it for you, I find it difficult to send thousands of $$ away on the chance that the person on the other end is honest.

It seems to me there are so many possibilities of things that can go wrong: dishonest seller takes the money and runs, out-of-province paperwork is all screwed up, major rust and/or mechanical issues that were not disclosed, etc, etc.

To me, even a couple of thousand dollars is a lot of money to risk losing by sending it along to an unknown individual based on an internet ad.

That being said, if I HAD to have it, then it might be worth the risk.  It hasn't come to that for me as yet.

I made one trip to Freeport, Maine this time of year (moose hunting season in Maine) to view my car in person. Beautiful trip! The car was everything the seller told me it was.

I made a second trip to the border (Calais, Maine) with a hired driver to meet the seller's flat bed, and transfer it onto ours. The transaction went flawless, because I did my homework ahead of time, and scheduled everything.

The car was worth it!

You did it the right way, & didn't post "I'd buy it in a minute if it wasn't so far away" Thats the "kicker" to me, I'd rather not make a statement about wanting it & not follow through. May stir up a "stink" but thats just my opinion!!!!

I often make a statement to that effect. I dont do it without thought. The method behind my madness is hoping that the seller or someone that knows the car will see it and deliver it, or make it easier for me to own it. Some people really need money now. Who knows, some might even drive it to me. I know its a long shot, but I have a lot on my plate and cant travel much these days. I have travelled great distances and dragged or drove cars home. I am dead serious when I make a statement about buying it if it were already here.

I am having a very difficult morning at work... P.O.S cars and trucks... So sitting down to take a break, I noticed an e-mail for a reply to this thread and I though, uh oh because of everybodys testiness here lately, another negative remark on the way.....

To clarify, I am not replying to this particular thread to cause stink either... Just to say sometimes follow through and go get it if you want it! Make the arrangements and if it not acceptable, move on but at least give it the old college try..

I have heard it said many times, "another out west" but remember, we are out west and if I or any one of us can look for you, I am sure we will!!

gparis7, you have gone the distance for the odd one yourself the latest being the Camaro... But you got it because you wanted it.... If I were to say to you that there is a decent '68 Biscayne X-cop car here for decent money, you would make the arrangements..

blacktransam, if there is something you like and I can help, just ask away...

I just been hating it on here lately with all the grouchyness and finger pointing that I am very close to not posting anymore or just pulling the plug altogether... (maybe not that it would matter much to some on here anyways)

Just play it easy on the clutch, hey fellahs???

- I have noticed the tension in the CP air too. I just assumed that we dont like to put our babies away for the winter, so we get a little grumpy. A little tolerance is all thats needed. Opinions are like sphincters, everybody has one.
Just because someone says tall, good looking, smart, well hung men are idiots, doesnt mean I will be offended.

Sure hope I'm not one of the people getting under your skin these days.  I will admit have gone through some "out west" envy due to the apparent abundance of non-rusty western cars for reasonable prices, and I am guilty of browsing the kijiji ads from west of Ontario on a regular basis to "window shop".  I do post them here in hopes that somebody from the area sees the ad and benefits from it.  Kinda like buying cars vicariously through CP members.  biggrin

Definitely not trying to offend or annoy anybody, but I apologize if I have...

I will say that if I ever become financially well-off and can own a large warehouse I'll be getting you to check out dozens of those western gems for me!  wink  I will become a "hoarder extraordinaire"!

I've just found that there been more than usual "extremely serious" postings on here. Postings that make me feel very fortunate in the life I have at this moment in time. I have nothing against these postings ... more power to you. Sometimes life can really take a turn for the worst, and you have reach out and express your personal experience.

As for tension on here, I don't feel it, but if people want to get their panties bunched-up over cars and car stuff, let them. To me, there are way bigger fish to fry.

Yep, we are here to help each other, I just checked out a car for Johnnee D across the pond!!! Didn't mind doing it for him as there's no way he can check out some of these cars. Same goes for someone out west or vise a versey for us easterners Extra eyes help make a decision for the person too far to go & look but these people are "serious" on getting a vehicle!!!!

Sometimes our own state of mind can cause us to misconstrue what someone is saying in a post. I know I am bad at doing this when I'm having a bad day and have actually PM'd members saying "What the hell did you mean by .....?!" It seems the grumpy posts come in waves. It's usually this time of year (depressed that Summer is over) and then about late Feb or early March when we've had about enough of Winter. Like Vincent I like to come here to unwind and relax and escape some of life's realities. Imagine the fun the moderators and myself have. We have to determine what posts/threads stay and ones we can leave alone. I also have to deal with quite a number of PM's from people complaining about what others are saying. It can be a thankless job.
Anyway, Vincent it would be a shame to lose you. I hope you'll stick around as I feel you are an asset to the website. I'd love to take a trip to Saskatchewan some day and have you show me all those treasures you post photos of. Us eastern folk are really envious of you!

You could always make a trip out of it. When kids and i went to Halifax to get parts car we made a little holiday out of it.
And that was in a Tahoe and pulling a trailer back with car on it. If it's something you like get somebody to check it out
for ya. fly out and drive it back. what a cool road trip that would be, my kids still talk about the cool road trip for the
parts car.you might be surprised how good on fuel it would be comming home.I drove my Tahoe down and back to halifax
4100 km and half of that was pulling trailer with car on it for $700. cheap in my opinion for the memories you will have.
