We all know how rare Canadian Pontiac sedan deliveries are. So, it would be quite a treat to feature one on Canadian Poncho. And it was certainly a treat to feature Doug McCurdy's 1957 Pontiac Sedan Delivery back in November 2009. Well, we are in for yet another treat for November 2011. Doug has just finished this fantastic 1955 Sedan Delivery and when Doug asked me if I would be interested in doing a feature on it, I jumped at the chance! While the '57 was bone stock, Doug decided to enhance the '55 with modern powertrain and suspension components. He certainly has the best of both worlds! Here's the details from Doug.
Back in 65 I was able to obtain a 55 Pontiac Sedan Delivery and it was a great reliable vehicle. It probably wasn't a cool car but it was great to have a vehicle when none of my friends had one.
I moved away from home and I gave the car to my father and he used it for his hunting and dog car and it worked great for him till the body just rusted away. Over the years I had never come across another 55 Pontiac Sedan Delivery. One day in 2005 I came across an ad in the Auto Trader and that is where this trip started. Knowing what I know now I would never have started. The car arrived from out west never saw it until it arrived no engine, no seats every piece of glass gone.
We decided to try and keep the car original looking with a modern drive train. The car has a ram jet 350 crate engine with a 5 speed manual transmission.
The car has power disc brakes all around, power steering, power windows and air conditioning. I also had new guages made. I had 4 guages made to fit into one of the old guages and a tach made for the 2nd instrument and a clock made for the blank clock space.
Basically it is a new car under a 55 Pontiac skin. I was able to use a lot of 55 Chev parts, I sure found out how hard it was to find 55 Pontiac parts thanks for the Internet and ebay. I still have a few things to do and a few parts to find yet but it has been great to have it out on the road and it runs great.
Very cool indeed. Best of all worlds! Great choice for feature of the month!!

cudos on a very nice delivery. my wagon story is similar for rarity of parts, i'm thankful that i have all the acadian trim because all the body parts i use on it are for a chevy II.
Doug would often share with me photos of the car over the past couple of years so I saw it in various states of the bulid. Seeing it together it is actually better than I ever imagined, just awesome.
