FINALLY, I have a 66 Grande Parisienne again.

The strange thing is, the 12 bolt seems to be a given with F40 but not the big bar. Mine is another example. I had forgotten the sizes so I checked back. Mine has F40, 12 bolt, small front bar (13/16").

I just checked my 67 chev CDN RPO price list and it says this for the F40 rpo.

With 155 hp,195 hp or 275 hp engine ( includes 8.875'' dia. ring gear).

Got it in writing smile.

In all my info I have it only says springs and shocks for F40, no mention of a sway bar anywhere.

155 hp needs a 12 bolt..... Crazy! You gotta wonder what they were thinking...

Ordered to be 'used' on the farm pulling heavy things slowly to town !

Out of all the 65 to 69 B- bodies I've stripped,, all have had 12 bolts ?

I'm inclined to believe country cars had a higher percentage of F40 orders.

As a kid I recall that was always part of the order for new vehicles.

Why do all the parts books say there is only one front bar size, 65-70???

This bar is .815" or 13/16".

I came across this in the basement today too. I had forgotten. I guess it will go on there too...

Is this an OEM bar or the later replacement Andrew? I forget but I know you are the one who taught me that the replacement bar has a different shape to the dip in the center under the housing.

replacement bar, original has a more gradual bend.

by the way, any original T3s still there? wink

Nope, I checked my stash and I only have for the single headlamp system, Acadian/ Nova style.

And the GP has aftermarket halogens but it's a car that is of little or no value anyway...

Carl, I think there were different sizes for front sway bars, but as stocks dwindled, parts books began to be rewritten. If you have early and late parts books, you might see some differences. My friend and I used to take parts books with us in the mid to late 70's when we went wrecking yard sailing.

I tried that too John but no luck. 72 issue parts book I have said 65-70 was all one number. I was sure it would show it.

To me yes, but it seems not to everyone.

I keep forgetting to mention one cool thing about this whole deal. I didn't get the original GP wheel covers with the car. However, a few months back, Beaumontguru contacted me and said he had a set of 66 GP wheelcovers that he had no use for, and I could have them if I picked them up. Maybe the magnetic field they created helped pull this car here!!! Kidding, but it was kind of cool that he gave me covers and this car showed up needing them!

Glad they got a new home

Not the first time I built a car around a part...

1980, bought a 66 Nova SS rolling shell. Put it together with a 283 powerglide. Went on vacation to the US. Went to a guy's house in Chicago. He had a 4 speed console for sale. Bought it, came home, yanked the powertrain and built and L79 clone!!!

My 1968 parts book only shows the one part # as well. 1968 was right in the thick of it. I wonder if that 1 part # was for the large bar or small one??

Never mind, the book is open right beside me on the floor.

Now how dumb is this, they list 3/4" or 7/8" bushings but only one size bar???

3903084 is the large bushings, 3903083 small. How bad is it when you can remember those off the top of your head. 3903084 was also used on the 66-67 chevelles with f41 if I remember correct.

You've been doing too much NOS shopping obviously! Only parts guys are supposed to do that!

Another night I'm going to see if the assembly manual microfiche can shed some light on this.

One thing I do know, I have to poke around and find a big front bar for this car now. I know of at least 3 in a yard but they're 3 hours away.

I'm only free after lunch. Is that too late?

Hmm, parts? I'd take some of the pieces of the lower side trim, the narrow moulding on the lower body line. Can you take pictures of it? Sure could use a tilt. Nicer steering wheel. Dash pad if no cracks.

Actually, my woodgrain dash right at the bottom left corner is fading and looking a bit old too.

You caught me off guard, there may be more!

Not certain my ammeter works. They're clipped in, just have to be careful using a tool to free the clip, otherwise the wood gets damaged.
