Wasted Trip!!! Grand Prix

My friend Jim called the rail yard in Toronto looking for his 62 G/P coming from BC. Yard told him they just unloaded it & was sitting in yard. So off we go at 11 am w/trailer to get it. Yard man sent us to office for papers to clear it, lady there said Broker hasn't paid them so no release on car!!! So we looked through the fence at it sitting there & came home "empty"  All shipping costs were paid "up front" by Jim prior to car going on the train, now he's worried that if broker doesn't pay the yard people for costs of transport, he's stuck to get car out of "Jail"  Hope this gets cleared up tomorrow, keep you informed!!!!

I think I'd be giving the broker a call.  Was the broker involved in the transaction, or just the shipping?   I find it odd that the railway could tell Jim the car is there, but Jim isn't their customer.

Just the shipping. Jim paid for the car separatley to widow of owner. When he called yard all they asked for was his name & description of car. He said he was going to get on the phone as soon as he got home. Office tried to get in touch with broker but no reply in the 1 1/2 hrs we waited!!!!

I hope it gets cleared up or you may have to get some friends from BC to pay the broker a visit.

what was the shipping cost Pete? Was the car a roller or under its own power?

That's if they can find him.  Is the broker a national company?

Car is complete, & has undergone a "mild" resto. 389,303 HP 8 lugs etc. Looked pretty good thru the fence. Think Jim said it was around $1600 + broker fees. Shipping broker is on this end. Vehicles have to run to be shipped by train. Office said the Batt. was dead when it arrived in Toronto yard & had to be boosted to get it off the "CHOO CHOO" so I'll take the booster box with us next trip

I'm sure you'll get it sorted out. Hopefully it will be quick. It must be painful for your buddy to have to see his car through the fence like that.

Wasn't that close for Jim either,[came from BC] but if you want it "bad" enough, distance doesn't enter the equasion!!! Thats why the train & transport co's are there.

Just heard from Jim, took car in for safety check, needed frt. B/shoes & 1 w/cyl. kit THATS IT got the plates for it & took his wife out in it. She likes it!!! easy to get in & out of, compared to his 69 Vette that he bought "brand" new & still has!!!Jim said the car runs "excellent" all sorts of power & took him right back to the days, when he had his first 62 G/P. Vette will have to go as he had a hip replacement & can't drive the 4 spd. anymore, kills him to push the clutch & said it will "hurt" to see it go!!!!!!

That looks really nice, the interior is very good.

Now I get to show my ignorance of US models, it looks just like any other'62 Pontiac to me, I would have thought that grille and tail lights etc.. would be styled differently. Was this the first year for Grand Prix?

Yes it is,1st year for it. The grille is different than the regular series, also notice the trim panel beteween the tail lights below t/lid. Gear shift handle is unique to US cars as well as the opt. 8 lugs. & concave in doors & 1/4 panels Radio & heater controls are diff. as well. You put them "side by each" bye & you can see the differences!!! & no I'm not from the ROCK but my buddy with the 60 T/Bird is, been "hangin" with him too much!!!!!!

Also of note is the lack of side trim which I believe was unique for the GP.  '62 was the first year for the GP, so it was closer to a "regular" Pontiac than those of subsequent years, which received more distinctive styling features (i.e. different roofline, etc).

That's a very nice car!
