A photo of my dad's 58 Pontiac

I'm not sure if I posted this before. Here is a photo of my Grandparents posing in front of my parent's 58 Pontiac. This is the only photo I know of that shows the whole car. It was Turquoise blue and white. Can anyone determine what model it was? I think it was a Laurentian. **EDIT - judging by the side trim I think I'm pretty safe in saying it was a Laurentian **

Cool,  Yes ultra rare Laurentian 2dr HT.  NOT a parisienne

Equvilent to the Belair 2dr HT sport coupe

Note the belair style roof(taller and not as long,  w/belair style c-pillar trim

Not to be confused with the Impala and parisienn, they would be the upper level.  roof was more chopped and shorter.

That was one rare car,  canadian #s on it would be problably under 1000 built for sure.   Very educated guess anyway.

TODD,  the brochure photo above does not show this car,  only shows it in a sedan.  must be on another page of the brochure

haha. Nope this was taken on Ipperwash beach back when you could actually drive on the beach. It seemed to be a popular hangout for my parents and grandparent. We have lot's of home movies showing the 69 Pontiac driving on the beach.

As for it being a rare car I really wish we had some paperwork with a VIN. I'd gladly pay for the GM docs. Actually, I have the VIN for the 69 Pontiac dad had. I should send for those.

Dad's 58 would have been the same as the yellow one shown in the brochure:

No,  its a sport coupe  HT.  Pretty sure there are NO door frames.  Side door glass is rolled down,  rear is up.  Its a HT for sure.

the 2dr Post sedan would not be anywhere near as rare as the HT sport coupe

7741 and 7841  i think

they call it a sedan,  but if you look there is a separate # for a business sedan(that would be a post car)

It is the picture of the one with the skiiers behind it in the brochure photo

Dad liked to put a few custom touches on his cars. He had the eyelids on the 69 Pontiac as well. As for the hubcaps I couldn't tell if they were Olds or Dodge Lancer spinners. I seem to recall dad mentioning he had a set stolen- not sure if it was this car or the 62 Impala he had after. I also think this one had duals and glasspacks and my mom wasn't impressed..biggrin

Geez, I stripped and crushed one of these in high school as a parts car for my 58 Bel Air Hardtop- still got the Bel Air though! I got the Pontiac for free. It was in primer with no engine or tranny. Original Rio Red and White car with a Silver and Grey Interior-definitely should have kept the tags off that one!

Yup,  when i saw this pic,  it was the first thing i thought of.

Probably the only other one i have seen.

You would agree that it is a HT for sure, not a post??????

Todd, this is a great picture! I've looked at it many times. Just noticed that there is a right fender mirror mounted too!

It sure looks like a HT to me.

The car is 100% a 2 dr. sedan with the same roof line as the one I posted below. Sedan roof stands up more.

Green car below is a Hardtop. HT roof line is a bit sleeker.

..when I was in high school in King City ON, my best buddy's grandfather in SK died and willed him his mint, black and white '58 Pontiac Laurentian 4-door sedan with a 261/3-on-the-tree combo. When it was shipped to him in ON he drove it over to my place as soon as he got it plated. Even though the car was about 8 or 9 years old, it looked like it had never been driven. Seats were mint and so was the body. And that 261 would go pretty well for a six...! My buddy wasn't a very good driver (actually drove better with a few beers in him than he did sober). One night he put it in a ditch going to a party..! Of course my dad and his dad came and got us out...

Ray, the 2nd pic. is a parisienne, is it not??? Todds pic. shows diff roof line , BUT the trim is diff on back pillar than the beige one & matches up w/ the 2dr. htp. in brochure. I'm going with its a 2dr. Htp & a rare one!!!!!

Yes Pete the cars pictured are actually a Strato Chief and Parisienne. The roof lines are what is important. Sorry I don't have photos in my archives of a HT Laurentian and post Laurentian. In 1958 Parisienne was actaully a Laurentian with higher level trim.

The post car has a different roof and glass which is what I was illustrating. Todd's Dad's car is like the Strato Chief's roof and glass.

Ray, the Laurentian and Parisienne Hard tops are 2 totally different roof lines. Just like the Bel-Air and Impala HT roof lines.
Laurentian HT and post are very similar in roof lines.
Todd's dad's car is a hard top. Look at the window opening, no door frame behind the vent window.

MY EYES DON'T SEE A FRAME AROUND THE DOOR GLASS. I WOULD SAY IT IS A HARDTOP. YOU CAN SEE THE FRAME AT THE TOP OF THE VENT WINDOW, BUT IT DOES NOT CONTINUE OVER THE TOP OF THE ROLL DOWN WINDOW.

Never knew that there was different roof lines. You can realy see the difference on these chevy's.

Belair hardtop windows up, look how large that rear side window is . This pic identical to Tods dad's roof line.
