66 Rag

So, I figured I would start a build thread as I know I really like pictures and I will most likely need some help moving forward.

Here is what I am working with

exterior.jpg

1966 Beau 283/pg, around 68k original miles.

The first order of business was to finish taking apart the front end

Updates to follow!

I will get a shot of the cowl tag next week and I will take some time to snap some more pictures. I only get to work on the car on Thursdays as it is about an hour away from my house. I was able to get the front suspension off and have begun media blasting all of the parts.

The car has been dissasembled for paint.

Sadly, I am not in the position to do a proper paint job at this point so I am just going to put the whole thing back together

Right now I am finishing the tear down on the front suspension and setting up a media blast station to get everything cleaned up and repainted.-----------------------------------------------------------------

You are taking it all apart...  blasting all the parts (suspension) and putting it all together and NOT painting it?

Is that not more expensive in the long run (re:taking it all apart again down the road?)

Actually the paint is pretty nice already and a proper paint job will be another $6-$10k, the work I am doing now is labor intensive, it is not costing me an arm and a leg. Ideally, I would LOVE to spray the car at this point, the fact is I just dont have that kind of money to spend. And I would rather wait to do the paint right rather than a cheap paint job now. I can take the car back apart in a few years when I am ready.

If that is original paint (which it may be considering the low mileage), in many ways I think it's better to keep it with the "survivor" paint.
Keep them photo's coming!...

Now that the holidays are over, I did get a chance to work on this a bit. I also happened across a local company, Biscay's Classic Chevy http://www.biscaysclassic.com/ . They are actually about 40 minutes from me, have a HUGE inventory and know thier stuff.

One interesting thing was when I cleaned up the motor, the block was blue and the heads were orange. It does have a casting # 3834810 which is the right years. Were they painted like this from the factory? The car only has 65k miles but the internals look like the motor may have been gone through at some point. The heads are canadian though.

2012-01-05_19-24-16_897.jpgAnd the cowl tag.. It looks like the car has been painted at some point.. there is very little overspray but I will bet this is not the original color combo. One of the rear 1/4 interior panels have a sticker that indicates 1992

Looks like it was originally Sandalwood Tan with Fawn interior.. I kinda like this color scheme better anyway.
