RE: 66 Grande Parisienne 4dr information?

By the way, I sold my Fury (the purple one in my pic) - I like the GP a lot better already, even though it has only spent a total of about 3 hours in my possession since I bought it a month ago...

Boy that "paint" sure isn't doing it any favours, style wise.  i  imagine that stuff is hard to get off too.

When I was growing up in Ancaster Ontario back in the 1960s a neighbor on our street had a 66 Grand Parisienne 4-door just like the one pictured except for the vinyl top (plus it was still a very clean car when I last saw it in the early 1970s). It was even Marina Blue. Because it had a single exhaust system I always assumed it had a 283. You never know, even up to the 396 they came standard with a single exhaust system. I witnessed it nearly get hit by a large Ford N-series tractor trailer for Massey Ferguson. I never saw it around once he traded it for a new Sedan DeVille. I wonder if the old girl survived?

Tell me about it... You can't really tell from the picture, but this stuff is textured and rubberized. It's the stuff off-roaders use to paint and protect their frames. From the can: "Protect/Undercoat, Ideal for use on rocker panels, Optimum rubber content for maximum protection, Durable yet resilient to resist chipping".

For now I have 2 choices: spend a pile of money I don't have getting the entire car sandblasted (including grill, taillamp and headlamp bezels, doorhandles, etc), or give it another, more even coating of the stuff that's on it.

Seeing as my cash is limited at the moment (already committed to the semi-restoration of my Mini this winter), I'm going to have to go the rat rod route for the moment, and rethink it in a year or two.

As I have to sandblast the stuff off anyway, a second coat is not gonna hurt it. And since the stuff is actually paintable, I can have a little fun with it before I get all serious and bring it back to glory again...

Yeah you have to be creative if you have no dough, for sure.  Maybe tell everybody it was a rare blackout model and was Kim il Jongs personal staff car or something.

Could be kind of fun...

There's no way you can double the price of a 4dr by putting what i expect to be a big block from a truck in it. Put the 283 back in it you're really going to restore it. As far as that gravel guard goes, you'll more than likely have to strip the car down to bare metal then prime and paint. Be aware there may be more than meets the eye once you get it stripped. If you need any rust free body panels give me a shout i may be able to steer you in the right direction.

Unfortunately, I'm being put in a position where I have to sell her... I have too many toys and a kid on the way, so she has to go :(

Very good mechanical shape, drives like a charm
Very solid frame and body (hood is open on pictures)

Would take trade +/-$ for either:
