As has been pointed out many many many times this was a convienient method to distinguish the various models because up to 1960 a Chevrolet was a large B body car, Biscayne, Bel Air, Impala. Once the smaller Corvair and Chevy II came out is was easier to distinguish them by the model name, likewise the Chevelle when it appeared in 1964. We all know all these cars were sold by Chevrolet Dealers and were Chevrolets.
Likely like we did when we were Chevy. We had a deal with my boss's friend who had a Pontiac Buick store and always ordered those models through him. It's like a dealer trade except if I am right, the customer had to make the cheque to the other dealership, but we did all the work.

Been in touch with the guy and they are aluminum with screen printing it sound like. I was ready to buy one thinking they were embossed plastic that light up. But I really don't think I want one now.
