Rechroming pot metal trim???

Hi guys I am looking at redoing my trim at Alberta Plating in Calgary! Just curious(as my name says) as to what kind of work they do? Give me the good, the bad and the ugly!! My trim has some pitting in it also, does this affect the outcome of the chrome job???  Lastly my grill is broke on the right side only! Can you weld this stuff?? This is on a 64 Beaumont.  Thnx for any and all advice;  Garth

Any suggestions on who else does rechroming on pot metal would be appreciated! I know there is a place in  Winnipeg, MB but they only do steel i'm told.

The Chrome Pit in Winnipeg does good work and their prices are fair.

I've used a product called Muggy weld.. it has a flux and seems to work quite well for pot metal repair.. use a small propane torch with a fine controllable flame and heat the area until the flux turns "rootbeer brown" and then start adding the rod.. just like solder.

then I used cambridge chromers in Ontario.. SUPER expensive.. but very nice results..

I used Cambridge as well for the hood ornament on my 51 Merc. P/Up yrs ago. they told me "every" pit has to be drilled out by hand, then filled w/copper [I think] then nickle & final chrome. I couldn't believe the part than came back!!! Looked "BRAND NEW" But, cost almost $450 for 8" x 3" pc. it's LABOUR intensive work & costly!!!!!!!!!!!

Have sent my tail panel from the 64 to Cambridge a few days ago to see what they can do. They had a booth at Hershey and the guy sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Will update on how they make out. Showed it to a shop in Vancouver 2 weeks ago and they just laughed and said who is going to spend the time to fill those pits so we will see.

We sold 100 bumper cores to them years ago, they seem to be a good shop and have definately been around along time. (Cambridge Platers, that is.)

Man that irks me when Canada becomes a foreign country cause it's too tough to ship to! Oh well, it's cost some guys an easy sale when they wouldn't sell to me.

I can get it sent to a UPS depot 25 miles from me just across in ND. However, some guys won't ship to my US address cause my paypal address is in Canada. To them I say "I'll buy it from someone else".

you used to be able to change your primary address in paypal,  I had 3 different address set , and I would change the primary as need be. I have a US address in Noonan ND that I would use , no problems ?

that was ahile back , maybe things have changed?

Sorry Garth!

Can chrome be plated over top of JB Weld? JB Weld would definately fix your grill, it's super tough stuff!

I tried a 2 part product like JB weld from permatex for aluminum!! No success it popped off with a slight push on it. That being said i cleaned it with brake cleaner but where and how it was broke didnt allow me to sand or clean any other way. So I guess I'm in need of a passenger side grill! Oh well it's only money and you have to spread it around like manure!! lol
