Anyone out there have original bench seat four speed cars A, B or X bodies (Beaumont/Chevelle, Parisienne/Impala, Acadian/Nova), or firsthand knowledge of what the different shifter handles, floor pan modifications, shifter boots/retainer rings and mount plates look like or were required for the different models?
I've been collecting parts and pieces for the eventual four speed swap into my 1966 Beaumont Custom. I have a shifter with linkage, I believe it is for a 65/66 B bodied car with a bench seat, with the only real difference between this and the Beaumont application is that a mounting plate bolts to the transmission tailshaft before the shifter body is bolted on. The Beaumont/Chevelle shifter bolts directly to the transmission tailshaft. I have attached a picture of the mount plate and shifter handle. Any other info on the floor pan mods and shifter boot and retaining ring as originally installed in these cars would be appreciated. The different reproduction parts suppliers have conflicting info from one supplier to another and I have seen different combinations from car to car.

I can't say for sure but I don't think the handle is B body for a bench seat. With that said, I can't say for sure what it does fit though. The mounting plate does look like what I've seen for a B body with bench. I had one years ago but can't find it now to compare.
With that said, if you find you don't need the mounting plate, I would be interested in purchasing it because I think I will need one for my GP bench seat 4 speed conversion. If you don't want to give it up, I understand. It's something I could make if you would be willing to give me the specs for it.
I have seen that shifter ID site you talk of. I'll poke around a bit to see if I can find it again.

Carl, I think I have a extra mounting plate for you.

Oh, that would be excellent Andrew. I had forgotten about that until recently but I bet for my shifter to come through the floor in the right spot and match the boot opening etc, I'm sure I need it.

That is great guys, I am kind of hesitant to pass it on till I'm sure I won't need it. I read somewhere that the plate is only needed on the B body cars, the A body shifter bolts directly to the transmission tailshaft, but I can't confirm it...anyone out there have the straight scoop?
I am 99% sure that is right. I know that the stock GM shifter, if bolted directly on to the tailhousing, comes up through the console in exactly the correct spot so I am sure for a bench seat it's exactly the same way.
