I may have brought this up before, but if so I've forgotten
According to all the literature on the 1969 that I have, the base transmission in the 2+2 was still the three-speed manual, which would have to be column shift, wouldn't it? I've never seen a three-speed manual floor shift.
In any event, that would also mean the base config for the 2+2 would have a console with NO shifter. And yet I've certainly never seen such a thing.
I looked in the parts book, and part number 3950680 is the "Plate assembly, seat separator compartment trim, ST 3 SPD". That sounds to me like it would be the console plate for such as car.
Dave the dentist in London ON had a 68 2+2 with a column shift auto transmission. It had a console, with a blank plate where the shifter would go. That's as close as I can come to an answer for your question.
It may have had the 3 speed on the floor with the console and Muncie shifter. Chevs came that way as the 4 speed was an option and if not checked off on the order form you got a 3 speed. Corvettes were sold this way also, so I would think the Canadian Pontiac's are the same.
While there were U.S. Pontiacs in the sixties that came with 3-speed floor shifts, the Canadian Pontiacs were like the full size Chevies in that they did not use a floor shift with any 3-speed. Cars like the Chevelle, Nova SS, Camaro SS did offer 3-speeds with floor shifts, just not the Big Car line. Basically a 3-speed 2+2 would have the column shift, then an automatic console with a filler plate that matched the rest of the console top plate trim. I have not seen a 68 - 70 2+2 blank console, but I have seen a 1964 Parisienne Custom Sport convertible with a 3-in-the-tree & console with filler plate (it was a very cool car).
Attached is a picture of a 1967 blank console from a 3-speed Impala SS. The same console would be used in a Canadian 1966 Parisienne Custom Sport & 1967 Canadian Pontiac 2+2. The picture is from an e-bay 67 Impala wagon that had buckets & console added from a 3-speed Impala SS, so don't get excited about it having only 2 pedals.
I had a black 1966 Grande Parisienne with a 283, 3 speed on the column and the console had a long slim ash tray where the automatic shifter would have been.
Oh Randy, please tell me you have a picture of that!
I'm sorry I don't have any pictures of that one. But about two years ago there was one at a small local show that I think was possibly the same car as it was equipped the same. I couldn't locate the owner but if I see it again I'll certainly take some pictures.
