Can anyone tell me if they have installed any aftermarket a/c units in a 67 Beaumont? Which one works better over another?. Did you order 67 Chevelle stuff with 64-67 GTO controls & duct work? Just need a little advice if there are any things to watch out for. Thanks
Im not into custom cars, but i thought of this pic of a GTO, note how they changed the position of the heat and radio, kind of works good with the original holes.
Not my cup of tea, but i thought it was interesting
I used Vintage Air Chevelle kit for my 65 SD. It fit great, other than a little trimming of the glove box insert, and you have to really squeeze your fingers in a couple spots to get all the parts in. Not sure where you are but Fortins Autoparts in Abbotsford stocks them, same price as online from usa. Ask for Rick 604-853-2886, good guy.
Thanks guys, I was leaning towards Vintage air myself. My main concern was if a Chevelle unit would work with the GTO/Lemans style heater controls. With the electronic servo unit vs cables, that's not a concern anyway I guess.
I have a Vintage heat air defrost unit in my 67 Beaumont. It works great even with the original dash unit for the Beaumont. I added a fan shroud, not sure if I need to or not, and it runs at 190 idling in traffic and cruisin on highway runs at 180. I run it on medium and then low. Also the tech support is a great help with instillation. This unit replaced the original heater box. It now has a flat fire wall. The only thing is you loose most of your glove box. The glove box is now only about 2" deep. I think this whole unit was about $1100.00 but well worth it. It is a custom made unit just for the 66-67 Pontiacs. They have other units also.
If you get one make sure you order the control for a GTO and not the Chevelle. I ordered a center dual vent for below the dash so I did not have to cut the dash.
